“Good Food, Friendly helpful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

Visited on a weekday lunchtime in early October and, perhaps unsurprisingly, the place was virtually empty. The restaurant section is at the back of the pub and overlooks the Dee Valley and route of the Llangollen Steam Railway. Staff were friendly and volunteered variations on the menu listed offerings. I made the mistake of having a starter which was substantial and left me feeling full even before the main course arrived. For a main course I had ordered a steak and kidney pie which was excellent: none of the chain restaurant ceramic bowl of gravy with a token piece of meat and a covering of pastry – this was a big slice of real pie with proper pastry and full of meat – proper great big chunks of it. The accompanying veg was nicely cooked too; the problem was there was so much of it and, having consumed a big starter I was left embarrassed by the amount of wasted food I left on my plate. Highly recommended – but remember portions are huge!

We were travelling from Nottingham to Aberdaron going on the back roads to avoid the motorways for a change, we were getting ready for a break as the kids were getting restless and the dog needed a walk - we chanced upon the Berwyn arms, a great find! We stopped for a selection of sarnies which were well presented with a salad dressed with a honey and whole grain mustard seed dressing and a hand-full of crisps and coleslaw if desired, I had the home cooked gammon very tasty and lean! £19.55 for four with a bowl of chips - good value. Whilst there i had a nosey in the restaurant which had superb views overlooking the River Dee, the rather large specials board was offering a good selection of culinary delights and reasonably priced. A fantastic pit-stop, refreshed and ready to hit the road again, well done to all.

Stayed 15th September 2012.

Travelling through Wales on holiday last week we (two couples) had had difficulty finding accommodation for the night when we chanced upon the Berwyn Arms. This review is for the accommodation as well as the excellent food. The overall ambience of this hotel is embracing. The local patrons are very welcoming and we had the most fantastic one night stay. The rooms are beautifully decorated and we had wonderful views out of the window. Just two little blips. The shower didn't work properly and it would be helpful if there was a small mirror to do your hair as the mirrors in our room were too far from the plug points.

A special mention for Sally who was so enthusiastic when showing us around, and nothing was too much trouble for her. What an asset.

We all said that find the Berwyn Arms was meant to be. Congratulations to all the staff, this is a terrific place to stay. Hope Doris now has a mate and has settled in!

We just happened across The Berwyn Arms on our way back home from hols in North Wales and could not fault it at all!! The staff were lovely, restaurant area fab too (we didnt see in the bar area or kiddy play area) the food was great and well priced as was the drink and we sat outside on that fab patio area and looked out over the most gorgeous scenery!! Beautiful!! We would most definitely go there again, we will make a point of doing so and would recommend it to anyone :) A great place to visit without doubt! Thanks for a very enjoyable time!

We arrived at the Berwyn Arms resturant a few minutes after closing (7 pm on a Sunday night,) but the very friendly waitress went to ask the chef if she could seat us. He agreed and we all were treated to an absolutely wondeful chicken dish and enough vegetasbles to feed an army. Although almost empty at this time, everyone was more than friendly and in no way did we feel rushed. If you are looking for a home cooked meal in this area, look no further.

Room Tip: Did not stsay here so didn't see the rooms.

Lovely meal for two, took a drive out and happened upon this place - tastefully renovated but still feels friendly and down to earth, reasonably busy (Fri night) and a few tables were reserved, also a number of tables there for a special celebration, always a good sign. We ate in the restaurant - great food - excellent steak at a reasonable price! Staff were warm and chatty, relaxing atmosphere and nice menu, looks like they have really catered for kids too with their own menu and separate dining/playroom! Nice views from table in the window, decent and well priced wine list. Very little to find wrong from first visit, not keen on sachet sauces at table and could do with better signage to toilets but v minor complaint! Will def return.
