We booked up our room at the Berwyn Arms only one day before we planned to stay. Lucky for us they had just had a cancellation and managed to get us in. We choose here to book as my husband mentioned that it had renovated and was in a prime spot for where we were planning to walk.
Upon arriving (after our long walk) we were greeted by smiling staff and management (and the pubs patrons) who immediately helped us relax for the night. We treated ourselves to a couple of pints of ale and a homemade scotch egg both I am happy to report were SUPERB. Another note to add is that the front bar and snug are dog friendly and my 2 boys were made to feel welcomed not just tolerated.
After a quick refreshment we retired to our room. Our room was spacious, well decorated and had a spectacular view of the river dee and the rolling hills and lush countryside surrounding.
A quick spruce up before dinner tested the en-suite that (even though not much to look at) had a very pleasant shower to wash away the days activities (and mud).
We eat are food in the snug ( as we had our dogs with us - so understandably couldn't dine in the restaurant) the steak was cooked how it was ordered and the portions were huge- very reasonably priced for portion size. We did not feel forgotten about even though we were eating seperately and I would say service was quicker then in some rated eateries.
Sleep was easy as we were full of good beer, wine and food and the bed was very comfortable.
Breakfast the next morning mirrored the portion sizes of the previous evening and was freshly cooked (sausage, bacon, egg, blackpudding, toms, baked beans, mushrooms, hash brown and toast) with choices of juice, tea, coffee and cereal. All served by the very welcoming manageress.
For the room and breakfast I have paid a lot more for less and purely based on the ones nights stay I can honestly say very good value for money. Myself my husband and dogs hope to return very shortly.
