“Pictures are decieving/Travel agent review”

I was disappointed with this rental,This is our 4th trip to Exuma thought we would try another area, The pictures are not what they seem in the ads. Maybe few years back but not now. Yes, I understand the salt air can cause problems, but the furniture inside needs to be replaced, and dirty, I would not sit on the couch or chair. The air condition units some worked better than others the main bedroom, not the best and very noisy. The shower curtain in the main bath needs to be replaced mold.
The beds, all have foamings on them not the best my husband and 20yr old son had bad backs during the stay from the beds. I know when on vacation you don't spend alot of time in the home, but we had also our grandchild 4 yrs old and daughter & son -in law also stay with us, and they too felt that the home and grounds need up keep. I asked the manager if we could have a rake to rake the front of the beach and never brought us one, We had mentioned the led path lights were broke and wren't fixed. the bbq area and pond area needs to be cleaned up.As for the construction it is still going on, and they 12 ft wall between is a blue ripped tarp. The beach is very nice and safe for young children to swim. The beach furniture needs to be cleaned mold and some broken as the same with the furniture on the decks. Our beds and our son also mentioned the smell from them. Not sure if it was the pillows you may want to bring your own. Or bedspreads or foamy.
Would I recommend this to my clients. No there are many other places to rent from.

“Beautiful location, loud construction next door”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2014 for a stay in March 2014
3
people found this review helpful

This is a long review, because although the owner intentionally mislead us about the construction next door, I still want to leave a fair and accurate review of the home.

We stayed at Sea Garden for a week in mid-March, 2014. The house itself is fine, right on a beautiful beach with a nice wrap-around porch with plenty of furniture. The location on the beach is spectacular.

However, the owner mislead us about the construction next door, claiming it would be completed by Christmas, 2013, and would not affect our stay. Although she was probably told at some point in the past that the work would be done by Christmas 2013, she certainly knew at Thanksgiving 2013 (when we booked) that this information was no longer correct due to the fact that even today, the home still is nowhere near complete. Now her claim is that the construction will be done by the end of March, but this is impossible given the large amount of work that still needs to be done, and which is why I felt compelled to write this review right away, so others considering this rental would know the situation. The main part of the house next door still does not even have walls, and is nowhere near complete. My best guess is that it won't be done until July or August, 2014 at the very earliest.

There is a torn up tarp stapled to some posts that is generously being called a "privacy wall", which does not provide either privacy or noise reduction. We were there during an unusually windy week, and despite the rough surf, the surf in no way drowned out the construction noise, as is claimed. If anything, the construction noise drowned out the sound of the surf. See pictures for more info.

If you don't mind the sound of construction work starting promptly at 7:00 a.m. every day except Sunday, and continuing all day until 3:00 or 4:00 p.m., this might be a good house for you. We were woken every day by loud boom boxes, and then started the hammering, circular saws, orbital sanders, compressors, workers yelling, etc. all day long. But, if you like to get up early and go out exploring the island every day, this really would not impact you that much.

The house is not well equipped for cooking - for example, no bowl for mixing anything or serving salad, no wine opener, no tongs, not even salt and pepper. There are plastic wine glasses, juice glasses, salad/lunch plates, etc., for 4, not 6, so if you have 6 adults, this might be a little inconvenient. We only had 4 people, so it wasn't a problem. The kitchen is very dark, almost dangerous to cook in at night, and we had to move a floor lamp over so we could see to cook.

As for the positives, the owner was very nice to work with on the rental (of course excluding the fact that she misrepresented the construction), the washer and dryer worked great, the house was convenient to George Town, the beach was perfect, and the layout of the house is nice. Bedrooms are not private because instead of proper doors, louvered closet doors that do not meet in the middle were used. This helps with air circulation, but makes the rooms noisy - if someone stays up to watch TV or listen to music, the sound is heard throughout the house. The website accurately represents the beautiful beach.

So, for us, Sea Garden was a mixed bag - some parts very good, some parts really bad. We would have preferred to spend our week at a place where we could have relaxed during the day, without feeling like we had to leave to get some peace and quiet.

If you book this house any time in the near future, ask for a picture or something to verify that the work is fully completed next door if you feel the construction would bother you. Unfortunately, the owner is unreliable for accurate information.

Yes, the house is beautiful and has the best location on the island.
Sorry for the construction site, it's out of our hands. The owner of that house promised us to be done by Christmas, so when I took down the bookings in August for the following March, of course I told the guests exactly what I was told by the neighbors. But as we see now the construction took longer then expected. It will be done by the June, 2014.
As far as cooking ware, we always replace it with the new one, since guests break it and it gets less of it. We have a 24/7 manager that is available just a phone call away. If the house is lacking something, just call her and ask for the things you need. I always tell that to guests, that things go wrong at any house and any time, and it all fixable. We are in business for 17 years with the house and have a lot of returning guests year after year and have a very good reputation on the island.
Thank you and we would love you to stay at our beautiful house on the beach!!!

“Location is perfect...house o.k.”

Beautiful beach! Great location on Great Exuma! We loved the wrap around porch too. The owners were easy to communicate with. Most of the basic things that we needed were at the house.

Fyi: the construction on the 4 unit condo next door is still going on. The construction starts early in the morning. The blue tarp wall really takes away from the beautiful beach scene.

Overall the house needs a good deep cleaning and just some overall maintenance and upkeep done.

Thank you for staying at Sea Garden. We would love to have you back.
Sorry again for the construction site next door, it will be done at the end of March. The blue tarp will be down after that. It is a single family house, it's not a condo. Condos are not allowed on Tar Bay beach!!!
Sea Garden is located right on the beach, so it gets a lot of direct winds, rains, salt air. We do the maintanance very often to keep it beautiful and clean. We are in business with the house for 15 years and have a very good reputation and a lot of guests coming back year after year...

“Location, location, location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

If you're looking for a real bahamian experience, and I assume you are since you are looking at Great Exuma...this home is an awesome choice. Sea Garden is a classic cottage, with a porch that wraps around 3/4 of the home. And while the "front" of the house faces the road, that's really not the part of the home you'll relish. It's the rear that faces the beach...only steps away. We enjoyed coffee every morning on the veranda, photographing the beautiful sunrises... and every night enjoying an evening cocktail, cigar and sea breezes. We were never bothered by bugs.

We used the cottage as our jumping off point to explore Exuma...so it was a great choice for us. The kitchen is a bit rustic and minimal, but has everything you need. But really, why cook in Exuma? We certainly didn't. Food at the one grocery store is expensive. We found it just as economic to eat out every night.

The master bedroom has an en suite, but the other two bedrooms share a bath. This may not be the best set-up for two couples sharing accommodations, but works great for a family with kiddos.

There is a new home under construction, but it didn't bother us one bit since we were gone most of the day. The beach at Sea Garden is deep and quite long, so you can walk as far as you like.

“Beautiful beach and view, BUT, construction next door”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

The negative - there is construction right next door (20 feet away) and they start at 8:00 a.m., not something you want to have to deal with on vacation. You can hear it in EVERY part of the house, front porch and on the beach. They are still working on the framing and don't work too fast, so it will be many months before completion.

The house has beautiful views and beach. The location is perfect as it is short distance to town and restaurants.

Recommendations: Eat at Blu, located in Exuma Palms hotel. Go on Sunday for BBQ and order a Rum Punch - you won't be disappointed. Go to the Tropic of Cancer beach - a must see. It is located on little Exuma. While there, eat at Santana's - best lobster you will have ever had and for $$22.00. You have to go next door and get rum cake from Mama's bakery. A lot of love (and rum) go into them. They will be able to tell you there exactly how together to Tropic of Cancer beach. Eat lunch at Driftwood Cafe - the owner is great and the food is fresh and delicious.

“Stylish and comfortable with room to breathe.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013 for a stay in April 2013

The house has a breath-taking view of the ocean and a wrap around porch that can serve as place to eat, sit, sleep and play. The house was clean, with cable TV, washer-dryer, two bathrooms and a strong Internet connection. The kitchen was modern - a real pleasure to cook in. There was a wonderful cross-breeze in the house. Ceiling and floor fans helped when the weather turned warmer and we never needed to turn on the air conditioners. The house is located next to the main road, so it's easy for taxis to find. All the local drivers knew the house by name - 'Sea Garden' - and didn't need the address when we called for service. There was some noise from traffic but it was drowned out by the sound of the waves. The house was clean when we arrived and was easy to clean up when we left. All said, it was very comfortable and the price was right.

“A tranquil private beach paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013 for a stay in April 2013

My husband and I travelled to Great Exuma with our 9 month old son. We came in on the Air Canada direct flight on Sunday April 7th, 2013. I would recommend anyone travelling from the East Coast to take this flight. Be sure to arrange to have some food at the cottage, or ask to go to the fish fry before heading to the cottage. No stores open on Sunday evening…ahhh the cottage life :)

We had prearranged a Taxi, as Olena and Allen suggested this. We were able to pay $10 less by booking ahead. We did not rent a car at all, we simply used the same driver each day (Dudley, a kind man from Exuma eager to help out with anything!!!). We paid $20 return from Sea Garden to Georgetown, so we went to town each evening for dinner. We went to Shirley's at the fish fry, Catch a Fire (Amazing grilled lobster and the best sunset), Cheater's (we felt like locals this place is so local!!!), Eddies Edgewater and then this cute little place that is a favourite of Dudley's that we ate at on the way to the airport…I wish I knew the name.

We simply loved the ease of travel in Exuma, the privacy, the safe feeling and most of all the breath taking beach that we had to ourselves for the entire week. The cottage is perfectly situated, and directly on the ocean. It is only a short 15 minute drive from the airport. The driveway is beautiful and stone; a pond with goldfish surrounded by palms to the right as you walk up the drive.

We had the housekeeper pick up a load of groceries and spirits for us ahead of time to get us started. It was great to just be able to roll into the cottage with cold beer waiting and staples for breakfast and lunch the next day. I was disappointed at the lack of basic supplies such as garbage bags (I did ask for more by the housekeeper and they were being sent over…they never arrived while we were there and we just ended up using bags from the grocery store), dish soap, hand soap and paper towels. When I looked at my bill for the store I was charged for laundry soap, which I thought was odd since I did not request it, and we did not use it all.

The kitchen area was not up to what I would consider clean; I had to clean (there were cleaning supplies) before cooking. I would recommend whenever possible moving the stove out to clean between guests. I recognize that this is not always possible with the move in and move out of guests, but perhaps a few times a month. Also lacking in the kitchen were a decent utensil set, measuring cups, can opener etc. Lots of pots and pans. Fridge worked great and there were ice cubes in the freezer for us upon arrival. We did not get to use the BBQ, there was no coal, and none available on the Island.

The washer and dryer on hand was perfect. There were ample towels for the beach as well as many linens.

The wrap around patio is phenomenal! 360 degree views of ocean and a warm breeze each evening. The beach furniture is dated and some is broken, but since it was just us and our son it was no problem. Some beach toys are there for children, which our son loved. The outdoor shower was awesome.

The privacy of this cottage makes this place like somewhere you've never been in the Caribbean. The moment you sit on the beach you feel like you are at your cottage. We saw no more than 6 people walk by us for the entire week.

While I do feel like a few things should be addressed to make this cottage top notch, I would still return given the location and how great the owners are.
