“Rather disappointing museum”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2014

I learned far more from the Lonely Planet guide about what happened at the Bay of Pigs, than I did from the museum devoted to the subject. Little explanation, bad or non-existent translation. It's a fascinating military operation. If only the story were better told by the museum, it could have been riveting.

“Easy Snorkeling”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2014

Near the Museo Giron is the Hotel Playa Giron. This is only a 2 star resort but very Cuban. Very few in the know N Americans mostly S Americans. It is all inclusive and quite inexpensive. The food is typical Cuban but drinks are free. staff are very nice, pool is very nice and the beach is sandy and protected. This is the only place on the beach. Casa Particulars are ALL 1/2 Km from beach. An added bonus is the manager will give you a chit so you can visit Caseta Buena and Playa Paradiso which is good snorkeling. This includes free drinks and lunch which is a $15 value per person. There is a separate seafood restaurant in the resort which is better than the buffet. You must book in advance. This resort ends up as cheap as the Casa's and is beach front.

“Informative small museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2014

This small museum is entirely devoted to the Bay of Pigs intervention.

The information is presented quite obviously one-sided, sometimes with a strong scent of socialist propaganda. Nevertheless, this kind of presentation leads to a better understanding of the Cuban perspective.

“Well worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2014

The museum is quite small but packed with interesting stuff. It has a fair amount of information in English. Right outside the entrance you can see what is claimed to be the tank that Fidel commandeered during the Bay of Pigs invasion (there is a famous photo of him jumping off the tank).

The entrance fee is 2 CUC. If you want to take photos inside the museum the entrance fee is 5 CUC.

“Probably the best museum in Cuba”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

This is a very nice small museum that is mostly devoted to events around the 1961 Bay of Pigs intervention.

The museum has two large rooms with pictures and artifacts (including machine guns and mortars) where the whole episode is described (including background information from both sides).
The whole exhibition has dual spanish/english descriptions but the English is rather funny at some places due to mistranslations.

The outdoor part has three tanks and two airplanes on display.

The entrance fee is 2CUC per person and 1 CUC for camera.

The only negative thing is that this rather interesting episode of history is heavily polluted by blatant propaganda in some of the inscriptions.
