“Surprised to find Poor and Average rating for this hotel! It’s definitely an Excellent Hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

Came back couple of weeks ago from a 7 nights stay in the Six Senses Laamu with my Husband, in summary Fantastic Retreat. Selected this hotel based on our excellent experience with the Sex Senses Zighy Bay and the SS Laamu was at par in terms of the total experience.
A Luxurious Eco-Friendly Hotel with great respect to the environment around it while maintaining the level of service you expect from a luxury chain.

Obviously there is no hotel in the world with no shortfalls thus here are the Pros and Cons in my opinion:

Pros:
- Lovely Villas, we tried The Ocean Water Villa both in Pier A and B for 4 nights and The Ocean Beach Villa for 3 nights. Read the specs on their website and see photos, what you see is what you will get for real in terms of the Villa’s Interior.

- Great Reef around the hotel for snorkeling, start from the Chill Bar and make your way to the SandBank while keeping Pier A on your right. That’s the best snorkel path there. Also they mention in their website that you can see Dolphins from the hotel deck and that is completely true, we spotted a group of dolphins once and they were so close and clear, it was amazing. Message is you don’t need to leave the hotel to enjoy great marine life.

- Excellent food in general with few exceptions. The Vietnamese Lunch at Leaf Restaurant, Dinner at the Japanese restaurant, French Dinner at The Leaf, Lobster Barbeque also at The Leaf and the several buffets and dinners at Logitude were just amazing. But some items on the menu in the Chill Bar were a complete disappointment; like (just for example) the Pizza; it was clearly made from a Ready Made Pizza Crust and the Cheese was not properly melted! Another example from The Bar Menu is the Chicken Salad, The Veggie Panini and the Arabic Mezza Platter which was a complete joke!

- The reception, Bar and few restaurants are located over the water on an elevated platform like the over-water villas, this offers such a nice atmosphere and a change to the regular in-the-jungle dining you get in the Maldives. This spot of the hotel is very vibrant and offers an entertaining ambiance for couples who would like some slight action during the day or in the evening.

-There was some sort of entertainment activity every night during our stay, Cocktail Parties, Jungle Cinema, Live Music under the stars…

- Excellent Airport Service. Upon arrival to Male International Airport we were greeted by the hotel’s representative who guided us to a Private Lounge where we waited for him to finish the check-in process for our domestic flight to Kadhdhoo Airport. Once you get to Kadhdhoo the relaxation process kicks in, such a chill small airport. From there we were escorted by another hotel employee to the private boat of the hotel, the trip took us 15 min where we were received by a member of Senior Management a British gentleman who was very charming throughout our stay.

- Each guest gets allocated a GEM (Guest Experience Manager) who takes care of all guest needs, our GEM was EXCELLENT! His name is Waheed, he didn’t spare an effort to execute every single request we had and trust me we were not easy .

Cons:
- The 3 piers for the over-water villas are completely different so it really depends on your luck when it comes to your villa’s location. We booked a (Ocean Water Villa) which is a higher category than the (Lagoon Water Villa) and the hotel’s website mentions the following about it (Ocean Water Villas face towards the main ocean with views and are far away from the main island). Upon check-in we were allocated to a villa in Pier B on the left side thus over villa overlooked Pier A and had a small side view of the open ocean, the other pier is pretty far away (will give them that) but for me this is not an Ocean View and not what I have paid for thus we insisted on getting relocated to another villa preferably on Pier A the left side since it has unobstructed view. Our GEM acted swiftly and managed to find a suitable Villa on Pier A which will freed up after 2 nights. Now the difference in view is substantial that’s why it really depends on your luck. Btw we sent the hotel a request upon our booking asking for a villa on the left side of pier A but since they were fully booked they couldn’t accommodate us immediately. Yet please note that Pier B was much more quiet than A which was busy with Buggy traffic because it’s a longer pier thus it has much more villas to be serviced.

- For Beach Villas. We also booked an Ocean Beach Villa; the one which we checked in was fantastic, absolute privacy, really nice outdoors setting and upper deck setting. Yet while walking on the beach I noticed that other villas did not enjoy the privacy we enjoyed from the beach side and upon checkout from the hotel we heard few guests complaining about their beach access from their Beach Villas.

- The hotel was 100% booked, I know a lot of luxury hotels keep their occupancy rate around 85-95% for multiple of good reasons but this hotel clearly allow itself to be stretched to the max which is something we could clearly feel. For example; Breakfast Buffet (which takes place in Logitude restaurant) at certain periods of the morning is a Maniac Event and the first sentence you get faced with once you check in to the restaurant is (Sorry Sir/Madam, we are full. You can pick a table in the Chill Bar and have the Buffet), this is not acceptable, each time we ignore the staff and look for a table ourselves and actually find one. Nevertheless I have to mention that the restaurant manager and one of his senior staff called Adam were always above excellence in their attitude and service.

- When you are walking around the hotel you are rarely alone in the path. There’s always guests on their bikes or loads and loads of staff members on their bikes also. It’s not serene walking around the hotel! And again the reason is the hotel was 100% booked.

- Some staff members in the restaurants were a bit rough around the edges especially in the Chill Bar but on the other hand they have personnel who are so charming and courteous they make you forget immediately the bad experience you faced with others.

This trip was planned as our BabyMoon thus I couldn’t do much of Water Sports so I cannot comment on the Diving Experience or other activities but I managed to do some snorkeling in the hotel’s Reef few times which was great.
Also I have not tried the Spa personally because of the pregnancy yet my husband had a fantastic treatment and was very pleased with the SPA and he is a very picky individual when it comes to SAPs.
Overall I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: If you book an Ocean Water Villa try to get yours on the left side of Pier A, which offers unobstruc...

We have been at Six Senses Laamu for our honeymoon (7 nights) and honestly it is hard to find, and even think, of something much better than this island. It is my third time at Maldives and Six Senses has been the best place with no doubts.

We landed in Male and Six Senses personnel escorted us to a Lounge while waiting for the next local flight to bring us down to the Laamu Atoll, one of the most unspoiled in the country. After a 50 minutes flight, we landed in Kadhoo and a speed boat brought us to the island.

The island is incredibly private and well mixed with nature. There are three "jettys" with Water Villas and several beach rooms around the island. We stayed in a water villa and had an amazing time. The view of the laguna is incredible, never seen colours like the ones there. The villas are spacious, with a eco-friendly style (and materials) and have an internal area with bed and bathroom facilities, plus an external terrace with a table (for breath-taking views), sun-bed and shower on a different side. The architecture and position inspires freedom and well-being. We don't know how the beach rooms are, but the feeling is that some have a splendid beach in the front side while others have smaller sand areas. It might be worth checking at the time of booking with the managements.

One of the great things of this island is that you will never get bored. If you want to relax and stay in privacy only, you can well do it in your water villa: breakfast and food are served all day there, and the access to the sea is very convenient. If you want to enjoy some activities, a Guest Experience Manager (GEM) will help you to book anything you want on the island: sunset cruises, a sushi restaurant, wine tastings, lobster dinner on the beach, etc. The password on the island is relaxing, so the GEM will make sure you won't have to do anything else than deciding what you want.

The food is wonderful. We tried everything on the island and we have been pleasantly impressed by the quality of raw materials. Try at lunch the Maldivian quesadillas for example. Breakfast is the only thing we would rate 8/10 instead of a round 10/10: rich offering, good coffee and cappuccino, variety, fresh ingredients, many fruit juices to pick up from a special menu....but eggs, pancakes etc were very good, but not amazing. We have been surprised by the breadth of the wine cellar in such a remote place, well done.

The quality of the reef is stunning. During some snorkeling "trips" we spotted four sea turtles, three stingrays, two mantas (wow), one little reef shark and of course many fishes from the reef. I couldn't scuba dive as I got an injury on my leg just few weeks before, but the impression is that Laamu atoll is offering the best Maldives can offer: the coral reef is in good health and fishes are everywhere.

A few additional details: to go around the island complementary bicycles are provided. The staff is very friendly: we suggest to bring some spare dollars to leave tips to the young Maldivians working there (day by day or, as we preferred, at the end of the week). The island has a private vegetable garden from where it sources some of the ingredients. There is a gorgeous sand bank, part of the property, which can be reached by boat but also by swimming if you are an expert swimmer (1 mile away) and it is something so beautiful that looks unreal.

Enjoy your stay. This is a top property with a very kind staff, solid service and astonishing beauty.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 49, on Jetty B. This is a great choice and we'll tell you why. Jetty A is very...

A long way to travel from Australia but absolutely worth the effort. From the moment we touched down in Male every little detail was taken care of to ensure ease of transfer to the island. Once there we were greeted by a number of senior staff members who maintained a strong presence throughout the stay ensuring that everything was just right. We were introduced the our personal GEM - guest entertainment manager who helped plan our itinerary of activities with us. This meant at no point did we feel rushed to do things or that we were missing out on anything and were just able to kick back and enjoy our honeymoon. I don't think anything we had read or seen on the Internet could have truly prepared us for the amazing experience. Without going into too much detail, if you are looking for a truly romantic getaway with warm clear waters, beautiful coral and marine life and a place where the staff are friendly and really go the extra mile to make your time on holiday special then look no further. Very highly recommended and we are grateful we stumbled across this place amongst so many options when looking on the Internet...

Like the reviewer below me, I can't believe people found anything to complain about at Six Senses. Unless you expect to have your own personal army of people looking after you 24/7, and picking up all your rubbish, I really don't understand the problem! The island was beautiful - and as natural as it could possibly be given it's a resort. 'No shoes' policy and no dressing for dinner was a lovely change - evenings spent in the rustic Chill bar on comfortable sofas, overlooking the sea and listening to some perfectly themed 'chill' music, was a great way to spend an evening. We actually didn't partake of any activity on the island (we didn't want to or were pushed to), apart from the Tuesday night party on the beach - cocktails, wine, beer, traditional music and dancing and a great sunset. We had a beach villa and it was perfect - quiet and private and almost no-one on the beach. Every day it was cleaned with a great turndown service in the evening. Outdoor shower and bath were a lovely novelty - even the crab who came to visit when the shower was on! Breakfast was excellent - again, sitting on comfortable sofa seats, over the reef, eating fresh fruit and waffles just cannot be beaten!! Mohamed makes the best waffles/crepes ever :) Fresh juices made to order and a great range of hot food. Definitely recommend the Asian buffet on a Friday night - great variety of food and the Maldivian cuisine and desserts were fantastic. We both had a treatment in the Spa which was lovely - inside a sort of nest structure which looked out to sea. Was so relaxing with the sea breeze coming through. I had the Indian Head Massage which was amazing!! Our GEM, Arif, made us feel very welcome and was always on hand if we needed to know something. There was also a full calendar of all activities in the villa so we always knew what was going on, when and how much. We had no problems getting there even though it was 3 flights from Hong Kong and a boat ride. Would absolutely recommend Six Senses - friendly friendly people and just a lovely place to be - total relaxation. Just remember your mosquito spray - they do tend to visit in the evenings!! Would definitely go back and already missing being so close to the sea....

Room Tip: Beach villas were excellent - so private and if you go to the upper 90's then you're close e...

We stayed 7 nights in December 2012 in a Ocean Water Villa. Our flight arrived in Male around 8:30 AM. Shortly after, we were taken care of by a rep who helped us check-in the domestic flight. We stayed in the lounge where they provided breakfast. Wi-fi is available which is nice. Our domestic flight was around 10 AM and took less than 1 hour. A quick boat ride took us to the island, dolphins welcoming us halfway throught the trip. Very smooth and quick transfers overall.

Our check-in was quick and easy, our GEM took us to our room and explained a few things about the resort. Luggage came in shortly after. We booked an Ocean Villa and were assigned #9, halfway through the jetty. The villa is amazing. Quite big with a nice outside shower, see-through bathtub, small balcony upstairs (quite unusual in the Maldives and nice for 360° views). Very comfortable bed, great entertainement system (bring CDs / music DVDs), outdoor plaform, above the water hammocks, day beds, all-glass table. You name it, they have it. No pool but who needs a pool when you have the ocean to look at every minute of the day.

Overall, the island is very nice but not exceptional (this was our 5th time in the Maldives). They have watersports which we didn't use. Their staff did seem friendly. I went diving every morning and each time they tried to arrange and go to the diving sites that I had requested. Diving is very diverse and quite amazing with manta rays and great corals. You can dive twice a day and not get bored with dives you will repeat. Main boat and equipment are top notch, nitrox is obviously available. One good thing to know: you can dive even if no other guest is diving which is quite rare. Staff can be very friendly (David from Argentina was the best by far) or not...(I don't want to mention any name as it's not a big deal). Expect to pay very high prices, even by Maldives standards...

The food was excellent. We were on a fullboard basis so we ate every lunch and dinner and did not get bored. Lot's of stuff to choose from, very fresh fish of course. Sushi every day, lobster every night in the menu, stirloin beef, sandwiches, you name it. We're French and picky and really there's nothing but good things to say about the food. Ansani, the Executive Sous-Chef knew I loved red tuna and on our last lunch he brought 2 plates for my wife and I, compliments of the house. Very nice touch. I only had breakfast once because of diving and it was amazing, excellent fruit juices, nice pastries. The whole works, really! A special mention to Manjula, the Chill Bar Manager from Sri Lanka, whose smile will brighten your day every time! Excellent ice-cream bar where we picked our dessert twice a day as the selection is so incredible.

Service overall was very good. Staff is very friendly and available. A couple of days before checking out and because we had a very late flight out of Male (11:00 PM), we asked our GEM (the only thing we asked during the whole stay) for a complimentary late check-out. Our GEM call back the next day and said OK for a 200 € fee. My wife said no, thank you. He said it was complicated because other guests would be arriving and they would be upset if the room was not ready/available. OK but either you can and you don't charge us or you can't and well too bad for us, business is business. We took it up to John, the Resident Manager (and #2 of the resort - the GM was away on vacation) and he said he would look into it. Then, we got a slip from the front desk indicating we got a complimentary late check out which we thoroughly enjoyed till the last minute. I spoked to John just before leaving and he said it was a communication issue with the GEM and he was sorry about that, it's the sort of things that they have to improve a little on he said. Well, we sure were happy we talked to him about this as it made the end of our stay just perfect.

One last mention to Jordi, the Food and Beverage Manager from Spain, another great asset to the resort.

Like I said, heaven on earth. A five-star resort living up to its standards.

We have just returned from Six Senses Laamu and can't believe that anyone could complain. It is an absolutely beautiful resort. We stayed in a lagoon villa which was great, always cleaned and tidied perfectly. The food was great albeit expensive but no more than other five star island resorts. The staff in the restaurants were great and most spoke fairly good english as well as other languages, Niyaz in Longitude was outstanding and remembered what we drank and how we liked our eggs each morning. Abidha, the lady who works in the icecream shop was most helpful and you could tell she loved her job. Our GEM Auzam was great and was a fountain of information and organised dinners and activities for us. The management team was great and were always around to say hello and ask how you were especially John the resident manager.
Overall it was a great relaxing holiday and we will certainly going back again and recomending it to anybody who asks. It is a little hard to get to but certainly worth the effort.

Room Tip: Probably not the best place to take young children

what can I say expect it was amazing. From the moment we arrived in Male we were greeted by the Six Senses Staff at the airport and from there it just got better. We stayed in an overwater villa which was amazing!!!!

Cooking class was great and even though we didn't see many dolphins on the dolphin cruise the experience is one I will never forget. We also had a private dinner on the beach which is something I highly recommend doing, the food was great and the service was amazing. Breathtaking views of the sunset while having dinner and sipping a class of wine with nobody else around was definitely worth the extra money.

We just LOVED IT!!!! will definitely be going back.

Room Tip: I highly recommend asking to be on jetty A if you are staying in an Overwater Villa as the other jet...
