“Pots in the morning”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013 via mobile

Stayed for the week renting a static on the site attached to the pub. Super static and a great price, nice and clean with all you would expect. Walked down for tea at the pub in the evening, lovely. Ordered the Wheatsheaf mega speciality burger, wow, amazing value and the size was unbelievable. Very tasty and well presented, staff were excellent and the beer garden which we ate in was nice, but needed a bit of attention. It sort of lost the fact you were in an amazing part of the world, needs a gardener with a bit of insight, that said it didn't spoil anything. Totally full we headed off back to the static after a very nice meal. Morning pots, passed by the beer garden at around 11:00 in the morning and all the pots and plates were still on the beer garden tables, didn't look good. But from a safety point of view when kids are running round, not a good thing,Accidents happen. The only thing this pub needs is a tidy at the back, just remember the back is just as bigger show piece as the back. ll said and done I wouldn't hesitate in coming again.

“Didn't live up to the hype.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

Wish i could give this restaurant a good review but i can't. Hard day at work and a trip out to Embleton for supper. Limited menu but enough to find something suitable. However i had gammon with chips and i don't know how they managed it but the chips were soft to the point of almost pureed inside! Gutted. Looked forwarded to them with the gammon and eggs but i just couldn't eat them. Picked through them to find the few 'firmish' ones. The reataurant was empty when we arrived and i can only think the chips had been re-cooked from lunchtime. Quite a few visitors had to leave the reataurant to drive into Cockermouth to get cash as there are no card facilties so be warned if you plan to visit, take cash. Yes i would give the Wheatsheaf another chance but perhaps wait until service was underway.

“Not bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

Visited this bar on Friday, I ordered the steak which was cooked as ordered. My only problem with the food was the chips, which were soggy, and spoilt what would have been a good meal. We were the 1st customers of the evening may be that could have been the reason. Friendly staff, normal pub prices. Cash only. (problem with the phone line). I would eat here again.

“Excellent food and very friendly.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

This is our local pub which we have frequented over many years. The food is now the best it has ever been with a varied menu of fresh home cooked food. The deserts are some of finest I have tasted. Andrew,John and Sharon are great hosts. Keep up the good work and I am sure the pub will be a success.
