“Friendly farm with stunning views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

We have never been camping/glamping before so didn't really know what to expect but would definitely recommend staying in an Octolodge at Abbots Reading Farm. We had a very warm and friendly welcome by the owners - Tony, Sharon and children.
The lodges were perfect and the toilet/shower facilities were very clean and tidy at all times.
The views were spectacular and if you like the countryside, wildlife, walking, biking and farm life this is the place to go and stay.
Tony and Sharon give good advise on the best places to go and see, but be aware, you will never fit it all in so will have to go back, which is what we will be doing!!!
Thank you Tony, Sharon and children for a brilliant few days.

We would really recommend a stay on Abbots Reading Farm. Tony and Sharon gave us a really warm welcome and couldn't do enough for us.
If you enjoy nature and the outdoors they are a fountain of knowledge of the area and things to do locally.
On the farm they have viewing points and bird hides if you fancy getting closer to nature.
The best part of the stay for me had to be relaxing on the balcony with a cold glass of wine, children playing and content with what can only be described as a 5 star view. the only thing we could hear were farm animals, bird song and children's laughter. Pure Bliss.

Room Tip: We would recommend no 5 but all the lodges have an uninterrupted view.

I wanted to go camping with my three daughters all under 9 years, so thinking camping was a little adventurous I searched for Glamping as an alternative- and I wasn't disappointed when I found the Octolodges on Abbots Reading Farm. Tony and Sharon the owners are very welcoming and friendly and my girls played for hours with their children which was great. The facilities are of an extremely high standard. Showers, toilet etc very clean and very close to Octolodges. The accommodation is great and contain all you need, kettles microwave etc. The beds are comfy too. We went on walks and visited the local pubs, and we went to Ulverston the next village which is a beautiful place to visit. There is so much to do and see around this is a must for any bidding Glampers. Best of all the views. Cannot be beaten. Thanks Tony and Sharon. We will visit again soon.

We stayed here as an alternative to camping as it was a very wet and chilly weekend. We found the owners very welcoming and friendly and our one year old son enjoyed looking at the farm animals and tractors. The lodges are small and cosy with a lovely veranda. There is a stone slab outside each lodge to bbq on but there is also a covered Farm building with benches , a bbq, table tennis and table football which would be great for a wet evening. Would highly recommend this place to couples and / or families with kids of any age

I stayed here the first weekend in May for a biking weekend with 3 friends and can't recommend it highly enough.

The owners Tony and Sharon were welcoming, friendly and went out of their way to help us. Tony waited up late for us to arrive on the first day as we were stuck in bank holiday traffic. He was very knowledgeable on the area and what things to see and do and always up for a chat. We heard that one of their children even bought a lamb around and let the younger guests pet and feed it as well!

The lodges are warm and toasty and come with fridge, kettle, microwave and TV and are perfect for snuggling up with a few drinks and a round or two of cards in the evening when the winds howling outside. Equally the veranda, complete with table and chairs would be perfect for a summers evening. The toilet and shower facilities are clean and modern and for the price, it really is good value. There is also at least one excellent pub in walking distance.

For those into biking, there is a bike route that can be reached from the campsite and combined with some country lanes makes a very scenic but not too strenuous ride. There is also Grizedale forest a short drive away for the more adventurous biker - plenty of family trails too, and a Go-Ape centre. There is also a brilliant bus service from Haverthwaite that goes as far as Ambleside and can take up to 12 bikes as well.
