“Hotel? (Guest house / motel)”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2011

Very simpel standard. More like a guest house or a motel. Why call it a hotel? Strange staff and service. Very simple breakfast buffe. Clean room though..

Being the only hotel in the area, it is no wonder it is ranked no. 1.
Single rooms are all in the basement, they told me when checking in. On the way down, I thought there was a swimmingpool in the hotel because of the damp. After just 5 minutes in a doubleroom down in the basement, i went back and said i could not stay there in the damp room, almost below ground level. Then, she did have a room upstairs, and this was indeed a single, and much better.
I would rate this hotel **, and for those rooms downstairs just *. They admitted they did have problems with humidity downstairs. The window of the room was all wet, and the sight from the window was just a pile of building materials.
Al, but one person among the staff, were from Estonia, but spoke english.
There is abosulutely nothing around the hotel, so you are confined to make use of their 'buffet' dinner.
The distance from the airport is 14 km, and there is a free shuttle. In the opposite direction from the airport, is a hotel used by air crew with short stop. Prevous reports of that hotel have called it a truck stop, so that is why i picked Evenes hotel, also called new Evenes Hotel after it went bankerupt a few times.
If you have the time, travel to Harstad where you will find decent hotels, 40 min drive.

when we decided to stop in this hotel we did not imagined how nice could be our stay in this hotel, the room was marvellous with a wonderful window and extremely confortable beds, but the real surprise was when we decided to have dinner in the hotel. The food was great and the cook extremely nice and accurate.
The breakfast is very good.

The hotel is located in the rather uninteresting village of Bogen, halfway between Narvik and Harstad. Of course, it has the excellent scenery common in this region (especially if you get a room facing the fjord). It is just beside the main E10 road, and is an easy stop for road travellers. Another reason for using this hotel is its proximity to Harstad-Narvik (Evenes) Airport, about 13 km away. The hotel will pick up and deliver their guests to /from the airport at no charge (this service must be pre-booked).

We booked our stay on the day of arrival. The staff was very helpful in finding a suitable room for us (2 adults and 3 children). What we got was a largish family room with 3 good single beds and a sleeper sofa usable for two.

The hotel property is quite dated - it appears to have been built in the 1970s, with little refurbishing done since. There are signs of work in progress, though - most doors at the second floor had the trim around the doors removed. Everything in the hotel reeks of the 1970s or early 1980s. Everything seemed clean, though - with the possible exception of some of the corners in the bathroom (I have seen much worse in modern hotels, though). There's no elevator to the second floor where the guest rooms are.

The room had no bedside tables. Apart from the beds there were a desk with a chair, a small table and a 26" TV with a decent selection of channels.

The bathroom had brownish tiles, a green toilet, a sink with mirror and a shower. No other toiletries than a dispenser multi-purpose soap in the shower and some shower caps were provided.

The room had wireless Internet (password obtainable from the reception) with somewhat limited capacity - don't plan on streaming HD video! There was also a PC in the reception area, it even had a (non-working) printer.

The provided breakfast was OK, but don't expect anything very fancy. There were not many guest in the hotel during our stay, so I'll accept a smaller selection than in a larger establishment. Some cold cuts, jams, corn flakes, milk, yoghurt, juices, boiled eggs and coffee/tea, were available, and some OK bread. My children were delighted to find a bowl of chocolates on the breakfast table - unfortunately, some of them were a bit stale.

Staff was friendly, but not very visible. We were asked to pay on arrival (even if the reservation was guaranteed by our travel agency). The man who drove us to the airport carried our bags into the departure hall, a courtesy not often seen in Norway.

All in all, this is a useful place if you need to stay in the area. The staff is good, while the property is obviously affected by its age.
