“Enjoyed our 8 day stay immensely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

We stayed at this campsite for eight days in July 2013 during our caravan tour of France. We caravan as we take our 3 cats with us and this campsite made no charge for animals (unlike many other sites that charged up to 5 Euros per day per animal).

This was a very quiet site with lots of shade and medium sized pitches. We selected a pitch well away from the facilities (for the benefit of our cats as it was quieter) but it was difficult to manoeuver into the pitch due to the location of trees - that being said the campsite staff assisted us with moving the caravan on and off the pitch and were exceedingly helpful throughout our stay.

The toilets and washrooms were excellent and were always spotlessly clean.

The café, whilst it was useful having this as an on site facility was not always open, despite July being a busy time. The meals were acceptable for the price but were of limited choice and so we only ate their a few times.

Free Wi-Fi is available at reception and at the café which is adjacent to it.

We enquired about the kayaking experience and although temped, decided not to try it. (I wear contacts and was worried about losing them if I overturned and didn't have goggles with me).

Overall as a campsite we would rate this highly - from our point of view, although it may not suit everyone else in the same way. It very much depends on what you are looking for - it is excellent for being quiet, close to kayaking facilities and especially for walking in spectacular scenery. We would not hesitate to return to this site if we were venture down to the area again in the future.

We only went canoeing, and weren't staying at the campsite (although was tempted - it looked great). All in all, it was great and would strongly recommend it if you fancy the opportunity to be alone with a canoe on a mountain river. We went on the 12km run, which took us 2.5 hours. It was scary at first as the first rapids were only a few metres from where we set off, but we soon got the hang of it and enjoyed the thrill of the river. It was far from being a white water experience, but enough for me to get the thrill. The scenery is amazing and there is a variety of landscapes. It was great to be out on the river alone.
I felt very safe at all times. The only word of warning is that there are a few sections where you have to be careful and follow some instructions given at the start, and which were quite hairy. They gave us each a map, but by the time we got to the locations the maps had disintegrated! And I spent much of the trip being paranoid as to whether we had reached the places where we had to be keep right or left.

Life vests were obligatory, obviously, and I did see people with helmets, so I assume they are available. But it isnt the riskiest of rivers, but it is not a millpond either. It does say it is for the over sevens, but I think that all depends on the child - you will know best, it isn't for the faint hearted. I did see a father with a disabled daughter (in a double canoe) accompanied by another little girl, and they seemed to manage quite well.

They looked after us well, and everything was well organised and professional. I was aching the next day!
