We cannot fault our stay at Il Battistero, it was by far and away our number one hotel of our recent trip to Italy. We left with warm memories of the incredibly welcoming ands helpful owners, Giovanni and Cinzia who could not do enough to make our stay more comfortable. Also worthy of mention is Mr Igino, the enigmatic winemaker turned hotelier who is a real character.

Il Battistro is in an amazing central location, has beautiful rooms with designer touches and comes with our unreserved recommendation.

Thank you to Giovanni, Cinzia and Mr Igino for such a memorable holiday. We can't wait to come back.

In a word: FANTASTICO!

Pluses: incredible location, brand new construction (had been opened 15 days when we were there!) in a 15th century building. We met Giovanni right inside the city walls, where he transferred our luggage to his car, and had our car parked for us. We had 2 bedrooms with shared a bath in a private hall, which was perfect for my wife & I, traveling with our teenage son; good shower and bathroom; all new furnishings, electric kettle in each room--everything you would expect was provided; by far the best thing, though, was the management: Giovanni and his mother were incredible. We arrived late in the evening, and they called a recommended restaurant (Guido's-wonderful meal!) for dinner, and Giovanni actually walked us over to be sure we got there without an issue.
Our room was the Pope Allesandro room, where the pope would stay when he visited the city/duomo. (ask Giovanni to show you the underground papal passage to the duomo). The space is well-furnished, most notably with original prints/documents (some dating from the 16th century) that are Sienese historical maps and documents. Our son's room had the original 'Coda' that established il Palio, the famous Siena horse race held twice yearly. Fascinating!

Highly recommended.

Minuses: ear plugs needed in this town of many college students (but to be fair we never asked to or used AC, though the room had it, so we didn't close our windows--it was wonderful fresh air!); no luggage racks (though I mentioned that to Giovanni before we left--he already had them on order). Everything else was terrific.

I can't say enough how much we enjoyed the facilities and location, but even better were the people! It was a first rate experience!

Room Tip: All rooms are great!

We were totally bowled over by this place. Set in the middle of Siena, 80 m from Il Campo, this place is a must for anyone who wants to be centrally located in this beautiful city. Giovanni and his family couldn't do enough for us. The design of the room we stayed in was exceptional. The fact that this was a building where Pope Alessandro VII stayed in, makes it even more amazing. We found that the only negative was that we didn't stay longer. If it's Siena, it must be Il Battistero. We'll be back!

Room Tip: Only a few rooms in this accommodation, but they are all amazing.

i can't rate Il Battistero highly enough. The location cannot be beaten, directly opposite Battistero di San Giovanni. Despite the history and age of the property (it used to be the apartment of Pope Alessandro VII) the rooms are spacious, light, airy, modern, and clean. Giovanni and his family are wonderful hosts. Welcoming us with a lovely glass of red wine when we arrived and a brief history of the house. Giovanni also made some great recommendations for places to eat and things to do. I will definitely be staying here again!

This place is great . Luxury , fantastic location . Imagine just opening your window and overlooking a plaza and a huge dome and church steps so close you feel you could touch them if you extend an arm . We arrive late afternoon and the owner greeted us in this great old building the inside is perfectly renovated . You're only about 1 minutes walking from the piazza dei Campo in Siena where the Palio takes place . Since there was some ceremony that evening and lots of people the owner's son took us to find a free parking spot .There had been a misunderstanding but no problem they put an additional bed for one of the kids , so nice and accomodating and friendly . You'll feel pampered and right in the middle of Siena at the Battistero , my only fear is that the next time I want to come back this place will be so popular they won't have room for me . They had just opened three days before we booked and i can tell this place will become busy from then on ...
After a good night sleep breakfast was reserved for us in a cafe right on the piazza dei campo
We had such a great time in Siena , Thank you so much
