After reading all the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor we were expecting something quite special from this restaurant, but left feeling utterly let down.
Before booking we looked on the website to see the lunchtime set menus. On arrival, which was a Saturday in the middle of November, we were the only diners in the restaurant and it remained that way all the time we were there. We ordered drinks and were handed the evening menu, so asked the waitress for the lunchtime set menu only to be told that they are now on the ‘festive’ menu, which is the same for lunch and dinner and £10.00 per person more than the prices on the website.
Although the food was quite nice, the portions were small and as we were the only ones dining, the waitress kept hovering, which made us feel uneasy. Needless to say, we left without having desert or coffee.
I needed the toilet, so went upstairs to find it. Upstairs was being prepared for a private birthday party that evening and the party organisers were decorating the room. The floor was covered with balloons and party decorations, which I had to carefully navigate my way round and I felt I was imposing on their space.
Overall, we felt that we were in the way. It was not a pleasant experience and we certainly won’t be gonig back there.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry you felt "utterly let down" - and as such rather surprised it has taken you three months to bring this to our attention. The festive seasonal menu was on our website with it clearly stated when it started. The festive menu was also in the restaurant window and in our newsletter. You were not given the evening menu you were given the seasonal festive menu. Once you saw the menu and what we were offering you had every right to decide to eat elsewhere and we would not have been offended if you had decided to take your custom elsehwere. . If as you say there was no one else in the restaurant this should have caused no difficulty. It should also be pointed out that the festive menu included within the price coffee and home-made truffles (this is an extra at other times of the year) and a sorbet course. I note that people preparing for their private party upstairs made you feel awkward when you went to the toilet.
