“IDYLLIC COTTAGE IN THE COUNTRY”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2012

My friend and I, garden, animal and countryside lovers, fell in love with this place as soon as we arrived down a long narrow country lane and found a delightful cottage garden and stream surrounding a lovely cottage. We had a room each, and the addition of fresh flowers, home baked cake and fruit in each of our rooms were touches which made us realise we were somewhere special. The rooms are traditionally but charmingly furnished, and the small but classy touches continued with the discovery of individual percolators to make fresh coffee. The annex which houses the rooms has its own entrance, and a hallway with lots of books, information, and a selection of the products which are for sale, made by our hosts.

And our hosts Elizabeth and David were delightful people. We had lovely long chats about gardens, flowers and animals. We met their sheep, chickens, geese, bees, baby ducks, dog, cats, and of course the badgers!

I would recommend this place to anyone and we can't wait to go back, although sadly family commitments make it unlikely in the immediate future.

We selected Croft Cottage using Google search for accommodation in the Ludlow area. We were not disappointed to say the least! We were intrigued by the prospect of seeing badgers and, while that was a fantastic experience in itself, it was the wonderful hospitality of our charming hosts, Elizabeth and David, that truly made our stay memorable. They really have refined the Bed and Breakfast experience to reflect the best of everything - location, privacy, comfort, breakfast, nature, etc. We have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful place to anyone who wants to experience the Best of British in a beautiful and tranquil area of Shropshire.

we were welcomed by the charming hosts, David and Elizabeth, for whom nothing was too much trouble. The accommodattion was on the ground floor (a bonus) was clean and spacious. It had Frewnch doors to the garden. Breakfasts were well cooked and plentifull with much of Elizabeth's own produce. The highlight of our visit was seeing three badgers from a hide which the Haskells have built - what a thrill to see these creatures at close hand!

Room Tip: Make sure that you get detailed directions to fing Croft Cottage or use a Satnav.

We spent a very enjoyable 5 days at Croft Cottage and were sorry to leave. The accommodation was very comfortable, the breakfast was delicious, all home produced or locally sourced and the honey from their own bees was particularly good. Our hosts could not have been more friendly and welcoming and the attention to detail was second to none including lovely fresh flowers and home made cake on arrival, in fact they could not have done more to make our holiday a pleasure. The grounds were delightful and the ducks, especially, were very entertaining. We will definitely be going back and would recommend anyone to stay at Croft Cottage when visiting this beautiful and interesting part of Shropshire.

We have just returned from a memorable weekend at croft cottage. The gardens are lovely it is so remote and peaceful here.Badger watching in the evenings made our stay complete and unforgettable. The care taken to provide local and home made produce wherever possible was second to none. Well done and many thanks to Elizabeth and David. from Lesley and Philip Howman

A word of advice: follow the directions on the website for Croft Cottage - don't use you Satnav, or like us you will find yourself approaching the cottage from an overgrown, tricky narrow lane!! Croft Cottage is in lovely remote surroundings, despite being a short drive to Ludlow. The hosts are lovely, the house is attractive, the gardens are spectacular, and the room was the nicest we stayed in during our trip, with our own door out into the garden, a lovely big comfortable bed, and our hosts even prepared a cozy futon set-up for our son. We felt at home, with our own private wing to ourselves. There were delicious brownies waiting for us in our room, with facilities to make our own tea and coffee. The next morning we were free to roam the garden, we followed our host as he let out the geese and collected eggs freshly laid by their ducks. The breakfast was the biggest treat of all. Lovely dining area. Delicious food. We felt thoroughly spoilt! Homemade granola and fruit compotes for me, and full English breakfasts for my husband and son, with an emphasis on local, quality food. We were also able to purchase homemade honey and jam, which were lovely presents to give to friends we visited. We hope to return!

Warm welcome, wonderful local produce for breakfast including home made bread, jam and honey from their own bees. A guided tour around the garden was a pleasure and we watched badgers feeding at night from the hide. Very quiet and peaceful location but good restaurant a short drive away. Private entrance for guests was appreciated and we did not have to worry about waking our hosts when we got back late. We were visiting local English Heritage sites around Bridgnorth, Ludlow and Leominster but I will certainly use this B & B when I return to walk in the area. There were also leaflets, books, maps etc available for walkers. A very pleasant stay. Thank you. Elise Harvey
