“Awful experience!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013 via mobile

Very disappointed! The fish platter was terrible and totally overpriced! Two king prawns, some tarramasalata, tortilla crisps, a teaspoon of crab in mayo and a few bits of 'Brakes' frozen calamari! That my friends was it for a grand sum of £11.95!! We shared it thinking it would be big for the price, went home and had to eat again as was starving! I am a chef and my 'whole dressed crab' with pots and a huge salad is only £12! Really felt ripped off. Won't return.

Dear hjaeroplane

Thank you for your comment regarding the Fish Mezze, I understand some concerns with some of the food items on our menu. On the day I raised this with the kitchen team.

Regarding the pricing of our menu this is out of our control which I explained to you on the day when I gave you your full refund for the inconvenience caused.

All the best

“What a shame!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

As we live in the village we have visited the Red Lion many times. Today we decided to go with our three children for dinner. The service was terrible, we had to go searching for our own cutlery when our cold starters arrived after an unacceptably long wait. Our daughters main course did not arrive until the rest of us had long since finished. All of the food was cold, the portions small, and the bill massive despite the fact that one main course and dessert was not charged due to the mix up with our order.

It's such a shame that The Red Lion has declined so much, it used to be very good. It is too pricey for the mediocre food served. Sadly we will not be back

Dear HandJMcG

Firstly I would like to apologise to you for the terrible service and food, I am very disappointed to hear how the rest of your meal went with your family.

If its at all possible i would like to hear further feedback from yourself personally in order to ensure this does NOT happen again and that certain principles are addressed regarding customer service.

I look forward to hearing from you soon,

All the best

“Very tasty and good service but watch out for the portion sizes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

We tried this restaurant because it was the nearest to our caravan site and were very glad to have found it. We don't agree with some of the other reviews because our experience was very good! The only downside was that I felt short changed as my risotto starter was very small in comparison to my wife's scallops...

“Our Local just got better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We have been to the Red Lion several times, we live in the same village, so it is our local. We have never experienced any of the bad experiences which some have reported.

On a very positive note, on our most recent visit over Easter, we had booked a table on the internet, but a glitch on the WWW meant it never arrived at the destination. Never mind, the cheery young lady at reception reassured us, "we can find you a table". Which indeed she did.

Once we had decided we did not have to wait long before our order was taken, and soon after our food arrived. My slow cooked 1/2 shoulder of lamb with cous cous was superb, as was my wifes meal, huge king prawns (a starter taken as a main course).

We later discovered that a new manager had taken over that weekend, there was an indication he had already had a 'bit of shake up' staff wise. Mmm, we will have to see.
