My father popped in last week to book a table for 14 people - a family meal with some relatives from Australia. His booking was taken and written down in front of him, so when we arrived we were surprised and somewhat annoyed when they told us they were not expecting us but that they would "fit us in but that they had two other larger parties to cater for". It turned out that those other parties each consisted of just 6 people - hardly large parties by any standard.
However, a table was set up for us and I have to say the standard of the food and wine was excellent. We ordered a number of sharing platters for starters which consisted of various items such as taramosolata, grilled king prawns, deep fried camembert, calamari amongst other things. Having seen the deep fried haddock and chips arrive at another table, I was sorely tempted but with so much other delicious sounding food on the menu, I decided I could have fish and chips almost anywhere so in the end opted for Sea Bass fillets on a bed of fennel, broad beans and peas, served with baby new potatoes with a buttery sauce which was beautifully cooked and presented, not to mention utterly delicious. Various other meals ordered by members of my family included the haddock and chips, rib-eye steak, slow-cooked shoulder of lamb, trout salad and more besides and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. We didn't have room for desserts and decided to enjoy coffee at my father's home to have a good catch-up with our rarely seen relatives.
The waiting staff seemed a little thin on the ground but, by and large, coped well with their 'unexpected' party.
The food and drink is, I think, a little bit on the pricey side but it was all delicious so could probably be tempted back!
