Valentines Restaurants are all franchised so it depends on which one you go to. We find Valentines in Henderson really great: good food, service, value for money. Not so the Valentines in Western Springs. We went here for a birthday. We arrived at the same time as a large group of hungry road workers, so it was a fight just to get to the food!
We were very disappointed in the food: brocolli looked brown, peas looked grey, they ran out of ham, hot chips etc. There wasn't that much variety to choose from really. The dessert bar was pretty miserable too: just jelly, chocolate mousse and a few other things. Brandy Snaps were brought out a bit later, but they had no pavlova (my favourite!). They had ice cream in large tubs, but the ice cream was so hard you needed a chisel to get any out. There wasn't much left of the ice cream by the time we got dessert so we didn't bother, but they did finally replenish the tubs as we were leaving. The coffee machine stopped working, my mother had to ask one of the staff members to fix it.
It also feels very cramped in the restaurant - not much room to move around. This was especially apparent around the food area, lots of pushing and shoving. The plates are also in a funny position - you have to walk past everyone getting their food to get a plate and then walk back to the start. Not very well set out. This was the first time in a long time that I worried I might get sick from the food (I didn't thankfully). Overall it was a really disappointing experience: Valentines are usually really good. One other thing: usually as you pay on the way out the duty manager will ask how your meal was, but this guy didn't. In my opinion go somewhere else.
