“Amazing waves!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

Baler is approximately 6hrs away from Manila..Better prepare some waste bag because the zigzag roads and narrow roads will surely gives u dizziness. It was exhausting but the travelling is worth it once you reached the beach. The waves are huge and awesome! Its our first time to try surfing and I really liked it and realized it wasnt scary and hard like what everybody thought. The locals are very friendly and nice. There's a lot of cheap lodging around, we stayed in Pacific Waves Inn, their staff was very accommodating and very much willing to help and to assist. We even met the owner and they tried to help us in looking for a place to stay for another night (they are fully booked and cant accommodate us for 1 night extension). The place is very cozy and nice, the room that we had is big enough for 5, and it was very cheap by the way. The surfing instructors are very nice and patient (specially for someone like me). Surfing fee is very cheap! 350php per hour (Maddox surfing school). It was really enjoyable and the visit was worth it.

“surfer's beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

Transfortation going to Baler, Aurora is located in cubao, along edsa in Quezon City. Travel period 5 to 6hrs if non stop buses @ 700php. When you get to Baler bus terminal (any bus line) you can ride tricycle going to sabang beach, 15php standard fare. Fares are regulated so where ever you go they have specific prices. When you get to the beach you can choose hotels, inns or motels as your accommodation. They have wifi too but brownout from time to time is part of the peoples life in Baler.

After surfing, it would be nice to rent sa tricycle, tour fares rates from 700 to 800 whole day. Where you can visit the balete tree, that stood there even before spaniards colonized Philippines, oldest tree in asia. You can visit mother falls, islets, and lots of tourist spots to visit, but dont expect you can find malls or souvenier center...or any fastfood chains you can see in big cities, all they have si mini sari2x store as they call it, market, and eatery with umbrella or rolling stall that sells grilled seafoods and vegetables. They have mercury drugstore too incase you need meds, other than that nothing more. Baler focus thier tourism industry on beach as it faces pacific ocean so the waves is good...surfers beach indeed...
