“beautifully peaceful!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2014 via mobile

been going here for many years and this time we stayed in a hotel room. our DVD player did not work but the receptionist had this fixed.the shower wad the worst I've experienced, it trickled either hot or cold. the bath pressure was amazing and temperature fantastic but the water was Brown. beds were hard and aircon was great but blew straight on the bed. our room directly faced the great pool area, very enjoyable. the location of this place is wonderful if you like peace and quiet. we enjoyed a game of mini golf at the great putt putt course but didn't get to experience the bikes or paddles boats as a day care group turned up an overtook the whole section which was disappointing considering we were paying to stay here. I don't recommend the breakfast anymore, for $20 a head it was disappointing as many items that were on the menu were non existant. dinner is a must in the alpenrose, it was reasonably priced and you won't be left hungry. I definitely recommend this place but say don't buy the breakfast, spend a little more on a chalet and cook your own or take advantage of the great BBQ facilities.

We booked and stayed here as my cousin was getting married. Our cabin was small, smaller than i thought it would be, but was enough for 2 of us. Nice and clean, no dust, we had a small ensuite, fridge, microwave, 2 chairs, cupboard and tv. We did not spend a lot of time in here, just slept basically. The first night we ate there, we did not get out entree until half way through our dessert, they asked us if we still wanted it and we said no, no point as it was an entree. My husband had the Troppo pizza, which was $19, very over priced for a pizza that was the size of the McCains' frozen garlic pizza. We could have gotten a family pizza for $16.95 at Domino's. I had the chicken and the lady asked me if i wanted chip and salad or chips and veg. I asked for chips and veg and got just salad. I just could not be bothered asking for my chips. I didn't even finish my meal.
The only thing free was the pool, being a family resort you would think the putt putt golf, and other various activities would be free or a small charge. The setting is very nice on the lake, lots of wildlife, ducks, rabbits and wallabies? around. It was also very peaceful. I would stay here again as it was reasonably priced accommodation wise, but take your own food, unless you make the trip each night/day in to Launceston ( which is what we did for the 2 of 3 nights). The staff were friendly and very helpful

Due to a tough year and a new baby who spent a month in NICU we felt that our kids deserved a treat in a night away. We had to save for a couple of months for our night away and picked Grindelwald as they advertised a number of activities. As the other chalets were full we ended up in the Honeymoon chalet which we thought would be a lovely treat as honeymoon accommodation is always a bit special.

It was quite nice with a large bathroom but very dirty. There was dust/dirt everywhere, tons of cobwebs and a lot of tlc needed. The lights around the bathroom mirror were either blown or just the bare fixture. The curtains were filthy with hooks missing and the pelmets falling down. The bed was so hard that I woke up with a painful neck and back....certainly not romantic if we were honeymooners. A minibar and AC (heat pump) were advertised but both were missing. We got there on a pretty warm day and it would have been terrible inside on a hot day, but overnight it was FREEZING! And Im Tasmanian so am used to the weather so goodness knows how tourists would have coped.

I thought the $35 charge for not cleaning the kitchen was a bit rich considering the chalet wasn't clean anyway, so basically guests do the cleaners job for them. I imagine honeymooners would feel a bit ripped off especially.

Our main reason for chosing here were the activities for the kids. However, our kids were bitterly dissappointed to discover that despite being guests, everything cost. I can understand a small charge for the paddleboats, but $5 a child for the jumping pillow? We could only afford one go on the paddleboats at $15 each, and one go on the go-carts. I imagine lots of families save to come there as its advertised as kid friendly, but unless you can afford an extra $100 or so for the kids to try everything out, dont bother. Fair enough if you are a day visitor, but not if you are a guest.

Honestly? The best part of the resort is not actually any part of the resort itself, instead its the wildlife thats there simply because of the location.

Also, remember to buy food/drink before getting there. My husband felt like a can of coke, and went to use the vending machine. After paying and not getting his drink, he put his hand in the dispenser to discover it was filled with rubbish. I wandered for ages looking for somewhere to get him a drink, or even a staff member-I found neither. As we didnt have the advertised mini bar we gave up.

As we were leaving we spotted on of the ducks badly injured and unable to walk. We reported this to the front desk but they simply didn't care. PLEASE look after your gorgeous wildlife...they are the best thing about the place.

We had stayed in a golf course view cabin for a night stop over in Launceston. The cabin was comfortable although furnishings were a little outdated. The location is lovely, very peaceful with wildlife around. I would stay again.

The setting is great but the whole place seems to be in need of an upgrade. Also too much bird and rabbit poo everywhere, especially on the golf course! An extra double bed crammed into our villa meant we could hardly move in the room.

Continue to visit Tamar as Sunset and Lakeview Villas are great value for money when you get the best deals via Booking.com or the Tamar site (best price this visit was via Booking.com) Would never pay the 'full price' listed though.
The newer villa style accommodation is compact, but adequate. It's a lovely holiday environment. The Chocolate Cafe continues to serve the best pancakes - a must for breakfast at least once a visit.

Room Tip: We like the 'Lakeview' villas - more away from the main areas, and nice outlook over the lak...

I had high hopes for this property when I booked it - it had everything you could ever want in a holiday. Whilst all the facilities were there - it seemed a bit of a ghost town on a week night - most of the shops weren't open and the bar and restaurant were running on skeleton staff which was disappointing. So I guess you need to stay on a weekend or peak season to make the most of it. We had a spa chalet overlooking the lake and were fascinated with the wildlife - rabbits, swans, ducks - very friendly they were. We had the buffet breakfast and it was nice - the golf course is lovely.

Room Tip: Spa chalets are nice - pick which day you stay - because not everything will be open.
