“Great for families, but quite dated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012 via mobile

My 2 kids (2 and 6) and I had lots of fun here, spent 3 nights in a hideaway chalet on a pay 2 stay 3 deal direct from their website which made it great value, if paying std rates I would probably be less positive. The chalet had everything we needed, plenty of space for 3! We made good use of the indoor pool each day, and the jumping pillow was a blast ($5/day). Supermarket in legana 5 mins down the road, and I thought it was a good base for some half day trips around the Tamar region or into Launceston. I suggest you wouldn't really want to stay here if not making use of the family friendly facilities though, and I felt sorry for the young couples that were there, as it was pretty chaotic in the school holidays!

Hi There,

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review for our property on Trip Advisor.

It's wonderful to hear that you really enjoyed of faciltiies and our location! We think we are perfect choice for family holidays in Tasmania! :) The resort has a real buzz to it when school holiday are on; our 150 acres makes for the perfect option for kids to run free, while still having plenty of space for couples wanting peace and quiet on a break away from it all.

I see you managed to book one of our weekly Wicked Wedesnday Deals on our direct website, which is great. They are certainly excellent value.

Just so that you can look forward to your next visit, I am pleased to advise we are around 25% through our Chalet renovations program which will give them a fresh and updated look and feel!

Once again, thank you for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back to our resort soon.

Warm Regards
Damien

The setting of the Resort is lovely with lush green grounds featuring a golf course and small lake. Bird life abounded as did some very fat rabbits bounding about near our room!

We stayed in a studio chalet which was excellent value for the money we paid. Our room was very well equipped with a kitchenette area, two small armchairs, a wardrobe, a modern TV and a double bed with bedside tables and lamps. All was very comfortable and clean. The little kitchen area had a larger than normal bar fridge, an electric jug and there was enough cutlery and crockery for two people. This meant that you could enjoy a basic meal - heating up takeaways for example if you wanted to economise - but the resort does have its own restaurant, if you don't want to head into town.

The bathroom had an array of towels ( bath, hand and face towels) and there were separate swimming pool towels in the wardrobe. There were also the usual niceties of shampoos, conditioners, soaps etc. My only slightly negative comment would be that the bathroom is a little on the small side but was very adequate for our needs. Similarly the bed is a double not a queen. There were extra pillows in the cupboard, plus a small ironing board and iron.
The heating was very good and made the room cosy on a quite chilly night.
The resort has many facilities - a golf course, a heated pool and a gym area, all available for guests to enjoy.
The staff at reception were very friendly and welcoming.

Dear Penelope,

Thank you very much for your kind words and glowing review - it's certainly appreciated that you took the time to put in such details to help our future guests.

Great to see that you booked our Boutique Studio Chalets at one of the bargain rates; often well under $100 per night! A great budget conscious option, while still offering fairly new accommodation with all the added extras :) I just wanted to let you know that I have checked with our Housekeeping Manager, and the beds in our Boutique's are actually Queen Size Beds.

We look forward to welcoming you back to our resort when you next choose to travel to the Launceston area.

Cheers
Damien

Returned to Tamar as was visiting on my own (without husband and son), and feel very comfortable at this location. Beautiful setting. Stayed in Lakeside Villa which is ample for 1 or 2 people (but was crowded when we had the whole family). Agree with previous comment regarding somewhat strange layout - with couch in front of sliding doors etc. Also, the heater was extremely loud and difficult to get a consistent comfortable temperature. The bathrooms could do with more towel rails and bench space (there is room), particularly if you did have 4 people staying. It is always clean and tidy, and staff very helpful. Always visit the Chocolate cafe for pancakes and coffee. Even though it's out of the city, it is within easy reach of everything if you have a car. It's always lovely to watch the ducks and rabbits in the morning and early evenings.

Room Tip: Great deals to be had on line. The newer villas are best.

Thank you for returning to the resort again, and for providing us with your feedback.

Great to hear that our staff are always helpful, and that you enjoy a visit to the chocolate cafe when ever you stay - it certainly is well worth it!!

We understand that our Villa accommodation ins't as suitable in size as our Chalets for family accommodation, but a more budget conscious option - Definitely a great option for a couple though! With most having a queen plus double bed in a studio layout, possibly it makes for a perfect short stay option, where as our 2 and 3 bedroom Chalets are great for a few days away with the children.

We too feel it's a beautiful setting, out of the city with lots of extra space to enjoy!

Looking forward to welcoming you back to the resort again soon.

Cheers
Damien

I have lost count over the years how many times i have stayed at Aspect Tamar Valley Resort. I have now managed to stay in all the varied accomodation choices available. The staff are super friendly and extremely accomodating. The rooms are always clean and smell fresh.
The grounds are always kept well and safe for the children.
The downfalls ? The dining room could be improved on. Never enough food on the buffets at breakfast and dinner time, ie eggs may be available but bacon is 20 minutes away, which i believe is not good enough, particularly with the money you are spending, approx $19 pp.
The bakery never have enough warm food available, and are slow at getting it prepared for you.
The golf shop is awesome, the guy working in there is soo helpful and friendly.
The clothing shop is soooo good. I would love to go back there once a week at least !!!!

The room we stayed in this weekend was lovely, very modern and very clean. The heater was noisy though, very noisy. It was a freezing night and we couldnt sleep with a heater on as it would have kept us awake but the beds are comfy with extra blankets, available which we took advantage of.

We continue to go back to Grindelwald because the rooms are lovely and clean, and it is such a relaxing atmosphere rather than a motel room where you can hear your neighbours next door.

I would have to say i have been visiting this place for a good part of 20 years and the only major downfall i can really say is a continual negative is the restaurant.

Room Tip: in my view the two bedroom units are the best, as there are full cooking facilities available.

Hi There,
Thank you taking the time to provide us with your feedback, and thank you for your wonderful comments.
It is always pleasing to hear that so many of our guests return again and again, and love the atmosphere of the resort.
I have passed your comments on to all departments, and also to the owners of the Bakery and Vonda Anne's clothing shop.
I am dissapointed to hear that the breakfast buffet in the Alpenrose Bistro has not been up to standard on more than one occasion. I have spoken to the Bistro Manager regarding the issue, and I assure you that every effort will be made to rectify the problem caused by the peak breakfast period.
We look forward to welcoming back to to the resort soon!

Warm Regards,
Damien

We booked a two night package staying in one of the lakeside spa villas. Reception staff were very friendly on check-in. The villa was ok, reasonably clean and had most things we needed. The windows needed a good clean inside and out, but the outlook over the little "lake" and golf course was pleasant. Bit of a strange layout with the couch right in front of the sliding door to the deck so that we had to move it in order to get out the door. The pillows were very thin (two wasn't even enough when I normally only use one), but the bed ok. The heater was the noisiest thing I have ever heard, but luckily there was a small fan heater in the cupboard so we mostly used that. So had previous occupants judging by the burn marks on the coffee table, carpet and melted front of the fan heater. The staff at the restaurant were very friendly but not very attentive. I had to go and ask for a dessert menu, then again had to go up to the counter to ask someone to take our dessert order. Good value food, basic pub-style fare. I also indulged in a facial at the onsite salon, very relaxing and friendly. I have also stayed in a hotel room on a previous conference trip and it was of a good standard. Only other issue for us was the terrible mobile phone reception. Very limited for telstra and non-existent for optus.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback from you stay with us, and your kind words about our staff.

I am pleased to advise that recently the Alpenrose Bistro has returned to offering full table service for evening meals.

I have passed on your comments regarding the room to our Housekeeping Manager for review.

I have also requested that our Maintenance Manager inspect the in-room heater to ensure future guests' comfort.

Once again, thank you for your comments. We hope that you will return for a 3rd visit and enjoy our staff's hospitality.

Warm Regards
