I say very unexpected because when we walked in, we thought it was a very odd looking place with not a whole lot of ambience. BUT, the food and service sure made up for it. Went on a Living Social voucher making it excellent value. The food was sensational - sort of Asian/Modern Australian fusion. We had five shared courses. First course was jamon which I had always wanted to try. It was wrapped around the most incredible combination of leaves and zesty flavours. I'm salivating as I write about it, 24 hours later! Then fresh, warm Asian dumplings in a delicious broth with mushroom, all fresh and warm and scrumptious! Then some magnificent, melt in your mouth, lamb skewers. Then perfectly cooked mussels on an amazing bed of salad containing coriander, pink grapefruit, and assorted leaves. A flavour explosions. By this stage I'd had two glasses of red (corkage included in the voucher - yay!)so I can't actually remember what the dessert was called. But it was a light, milky, coconut concoction (almost the texture of creme caramel) on a bed of pineapple. Absolutely delicious, and very palate cleansing. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and even though we had five courses, it was so clean and fresh that I didn't feel like I'd overdone it at all. As mentioned above, Origin is an odd place to walk into though - it feels like a takeaway with tables, more than a restaurant and lacked the ambience that the food deserved. I nice dark colour on the walls, and some funky lighting, and it would be amazing! The service was so friendly, and they seemed genuinely delighted that we were enjoying our meal so much. Just fix up the decor guys and this restaurant would be incredible. Whoever the chef is out the back, sure knows how to cook!
