My Girlfriend and I booked this trip with Krabi Trek (also a very good company). They arranged to pick us up from our Hotel (The Small Hotel) at 0830, and were very punctual. From our Hotel it was a 45 min drive to the venue. Our transport was a sheltered pickup truck (most common mode of transport), and as it was raining, it was a very unexpectedly cold 45 min ride, and by the time we got there, we were soaked and my girlfriend was shivering. [Alright, the adventure began before we even got there!] So for those of you who do not like the cold, if it is raining, request to sit in front with the driver, or bring along a jacket!
After we reached, we got warmed up and prepared (shoes are a must for this activity, and thankfully we both brought a pair). The staff left us to it, and did not disturb us till we told them that we were ready. We got geared up by them, and after testing our equipment, we went on the training course.
The training course was well briefed by our guide, and he proceeded to demonstrate to us the steps and safety guidelines when we were 24 meters up in the air. After he saw us through our training course, he gave us the go ahead to start on the course.
There are a total of 4 courses, Green, Blue, Red and Black-all progressive in difficulty in that order. The courses also get higher in the air as they get harder. Each course ends back on the forest floor, so you can take a break in between each one before you set off for your next course. But with adrenaline pumping through our bodies, my girlfriend and I blazed through all the courses without resting.
There are some really interesting obstacles, a flying surfboard, a broom where you can be Harry Potter for 15 seconds, and even one where you get to ride a bike 10 metres up in the air! Red and Black courses involve quite a fair bit of climbing and arm power, but don't worry, you can rest after each obstacle, which my girlfriend did quite a bit in the black. There are some amazing zip lines in the course, and there is even a double zip line at one part!
It was drizzling throughout our whole visit, and some obstacles were slippery, but it was very safe throughout the whole course, with 2 safety lines attached to you at all times. After 2 hours of extreme fun up in the treetops, we ended the course back at the hut where we started from. And there, sitting on the table, were 2 large plates of hot, steaming fried rice (with fried chicken wings and an egg), a plate of watermelon slices, and a jug of water. What a welcomed sight for 2 wet and hungry participants!
After lunch we told our guide that we wanted to head back to the hotel. and it was another 45 mins cold, wet ride back to our hotel (in the spirit of adventure we opted to sit at the back of the pickup, since we were already wet :D)
A truly amazing experience, and boy were we glad when we signed up for this! (It was an impulse decision) A must do for all thrill-seekers in Krabi!
