I went for lunch with my mum today. The day was cold and drizzly. We entered the restaurant which felt almost as cold as the outside sadly. The decor however is lovely, modern and tidy. We were met by a friendly waiter who directed us to a table of our choosing...there was nobody else in yet so that was to be expected.
Onto the food. I chose the steak baguette which they kindly swapped the mushrooms for onions for me. My mum chose the lasagne. Considering we were the only ones there I would say the food took far too long to come out. The steak baguette was, I would say, perfect. The portion size was great and the steak was cooked to my liking and was not chewy. Quality sandwich at a good price with plenty of chunky chips and salad. It all seemed very fresh.
Unfortunately the same could not be said for the lasagne. It was dry and hard around the edges. We also ordered coffee and the cream and milk came in chipped jugs...not the best presentation and didn't match the ambience of the restaurant decor.
We pointed out these shortfalls to the waiter and suffice to say they were very accommodating. We were recompensed well without argument.
Considering the quality of the sandwich I received I would recommend this as a nice place to have lunch. The coffee was lovely and the service was fine. I wish the lasagne had been good because it worries me that they were happy to serve it as it was. I'd definitely give the place another chance though. It would be worth considering it as a stop off if you were combining it with a walk around the lake as there is no parking for the restaurant, you'd have to use the pay and display opposite. All in all, a nice enough restaurant cafe, reasonably priced with just a few areas they should tweak to improve.
