I stayed at La Grande Corbiere with a group of friends as we cycled around Normandy over a long weekend. We only stayed one night, but I would very happily have stayed for a week. Maybe next time.
What we found was a beautiful property in wonderful gardens with delicious food and attentive hosting. We arrived slightly later than planned after spending some time relaxing in nearby Neufchatel. We were shown to our rooms - ours being room 5 up a steep flight of steps and with very low doors, and with a small bathroom. But this was a small price to pay for the accompanying balcony with views down the valley. In the morning, I sat out there watching deer in the fields and enjoying the tranquility.
The rooms are characterful and pretty, and the bed was very comfortable. To me, the place has quirks rather than problems. However, if you're restricted in your mobility, have a chat with them about this first - Chris & Ros will look after you, I'm sure. Not all the rooms have steep steps to access them.
A final word about the hosting. Chris & Ros are ex-pat Brits who are classic B&B owners. Their hosting and culinary skills are superb, and aside from an amazing meal in the evening, we were also well fuelled up at breakfast with a feast of breads, jams, crossaints, boiled eggs, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, juice, and tea & coffee. We really couldn't have asked for more. It was a real shame we were only there for one night.
Would I stay there again? Yes, definitely. In fact, I'm thinking of planning a trip that specifically includes La Grand Corbiere on the itinery, this time for at least a couple of nights.
