“A Wonderful Find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

A group of 8 of us stayed here for one evening during a cycling holiday. The accommodation was excellent with plenty of character - it truly is a wonderful setting.
There is secure storage for bicycles which can sometimes be hard to find.

The food was of excellent quality, just what we needed after a long days cycling.

The hosts, Roz and Chris are extremely welcoming and have excellent knowledge of the local area. They both have led very interesting lives and hours can be spent hearing the many exciting stories that have happened whilst they have followed their various professions....

If you are cycling the Avenue Verte then this is an ideal stopping point - the hill to get there makes it more even more worthwhile!

I will definitely be back for a stay next year!

Stopped here with friends on a cycle tour Seine-Maritime region and had a very enjoyable nights stay.

The location is lovely, quiet and tranquil, with great views down the valley.

I loved the quirkiness of the rooms. Some visitors may have a problem with access to some of the rooms if they are less mobile so worth checking with the owners, Chris and Ros, who are great hosts, as to the best room for them.

We can also thoroughly recommend the food at La Grande Corbiere, both dinner and breakfast were top notch.

We would definitely stay here again and if time allowed for more than just the one night next time.

I stayed at La Grande Corbiere with a group of friends as we cycled around Normandy over a long weekend. We only stayed one night, but I would very happily have stayed for a week. Maybe next time.

What we found was a beautiful property in wonderful gardens with delicious food and attentive hosting. We arrived slightly later than planned after spending some time relaxing in nearby Neufchatel. We were shown to our rooms - ours being room 5 up a steep flight of steps and with very low doors, and with a small bathroom. But this was a small price to pay for the accompanying balcony with views down the valley. In the morning, I sat out there watching deer in the fields and enjoying the tranquility.

The rooms are characterful and pretty, and the bed was very comfortable. To me, the place has quirks rather than problems. However, if you're restricted in your mobility, have a chat with them about this first - Chris & Ros will look after you, I'm sure. Not all the rooms have steep steps to access them.

A final word about the hosting. Chris & Ros are ex-pat Brits who are classic B&B owners. Their hosting and culinary skills are superb, and aside from an amazing meal in the evening, we were also well fuelled up at breakfast with a feast of breads, jams, crossaints, boiled eggs, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, juice, and tea & coffee. We really couldn't have asked for more. It was a real shame we were only there for one night.

Would I stay there again? Yes, definitely. In fact, I'm thinking of planning a trip that specifically includes La Grand Corbiere on the itinery, this time for at least a couple of nights.

We stayed one night at La Grande Corbier on our way down to the Dordogne. The fact that it is only a short two hour (ish) drive from Calais makes this a good place to stop to get ahead of the traffic the following day. The location is idyllic with gorgeous gardens, and a wonderful view from our bedroom veranda.. Our bedroom suite (two bedrooms and a bathroom) were up a steep set of steps but worth the climb for the views and comfort we experienced. The evening meal was absolutely the best part - cheese and bacon tart to start, apple sorbet with calvados, chicken in parma ham in a delicious sauce, cheeses, and finally a wonderful, light lemon mousse with meringues...... all perfectly delicious. I can wholeheartedly recommend this place. Even the dog had a good time sniffing out the cats, chickens and peacock - thankfully he didn't tuck into any of them!! Thanks to Ros and Chris for a very enjoyable stay.

Just got back from France and stopped two nights enroute to Loire ans two nights from Loire.

This place really is idyllic (even in rain). The bedrooms are well dressed with all amenity but slightly small. That said there is ample communal space in large living room and massive gardens afte all bedrooms are for sleeping in.

Ros and Chris are perfect hosts and extremely knowledgable about the area. Chris is self taught chef and produced four of the best evenings meals we've ever had (inexpensive too).

I highly recommend this property for both long and short stays and is an ideal break for travellers to south france. Nearby is the green route a cylcle path on reclaimed railway line from Paris to dieppe.

Cannot rate this highly enough and hats off to the genial hosts who do go the extra mile.

Hopefully when we return its not fully booked ( selfishly should not have rated property) .

Chris and ros many thanks and have a well deserved break in September.

The smiths.

La Grande Corbière is a wonderful find. Wish we'd discovered it years ago. It's tucked away down a private track and sits in an oasis of tranquility. Ros and Chris have lovingly restored the property and it's truly amazing how they've turned a ruin into a gorgeous home and created a beautiful garden. We were travelling with our dog and all 3 of us were made very welcome. There is a wonderful lounge/ dining area for guests and the log fire was crackling and blazing - just the ticket on a cold April evening. Ros prepared a superb 4 course meal - really top class and presented with flair. Lovely! After dinner we chatted by the fire with our hosts who have some great stories to tell about the area and its history. We stayed in the ground floor double room which is not all that big but it's very comfortable and cosy and there's everything you need including bath robes which is a nice touch. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful and included freshly laid boiled eggs. We can't fault our stay and we loved it so much that we've booked to go back in June. For us it was perfect. Thanks, Ros and Chris for making us so welcome.

As a group of 7 adult family members we stayed at Le Grande Corbiere on a trip across northern France. Finding our home for the night was very easy using the directions from Ros. We felt welcome from the moment we arrived and were settled into our rooms. Chris served us drinks on the patio and we were able to enjoy the beautiful yard and gardens they have created. The five course dinner with wine was phenomenal and I recommend it to anyone who stays here. After their work was done, we enjoyed a visit with Chris and Ros and suggestions of sights we might visit while in the area.
