“A Quality Authentic Family Restaurant Serving Good Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

What a wonderful experience this turned out to be - we arrived on a cold day, without a reservation and were greeted by a roaring fire by the owner and his wife who proudly showed us to seats by the fire.
The food and wine were really authentic and carefully prepared with good ingredients. We began with 3 different starters, the local (Benimantell) sausages which were extremely tasty, a plate of crispy fried slices of artichokes and fresh baby squid (chipirones).
This was followed by the local stew (Ollet) served with rice - generous portion of steaming "soup" laced with vegetables, meat and rice (oh so welcome given the cool weather outside). One of our guests had lamb chops, and the other had a sirloin steak which she pronounced as being really tasty, but in parts a little tough.
The service was great with the owner showing genuine concern at our opinions of the food. The wine was correctly priced, and the ambiance was magnificent.
We shall definitely return as this was a wonderful experience and a great way of spending an afternoon on a cool day, enjoying well prepared wholesome food, with great friends and good friends.

“Fabulous home made food and a warm welcome.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

We have been to Venta La Montana twice now, most recently in January this year. The reason I am now writing is that we were lured into the neighbouring restaurant by seeimgly lower prices when visiting with some friends this week, only to find hidden costs, actually much higher prices and very much poorer food.

If you're choosing between Venta la Montana and Ca Rafael a few doors away, then go for Venta La Montana every time. The Michelin guide which recommends them got it right! A menu del dia including tax but not drinks is 18 Euros. A really good price for such excellent food.

Everything is home made and the star attractions for me are the starters: fantastic croquetas, espincat (roasted veg in a kind of cake form), baby artichokes in the lightest tempura batter, fresh cocas, etc etc. The local winter stew dish of Olleta de Blat was juicy, tender and very tasty and the fish fresh was perfectly cooked. The owner, whose school photos adorn the wall, showing how the area has changed over the years, is a lovely man, interested without being intrusive and he took time to explain how the olleta was made out of wheat yet looked like little grains of rice and how long the stew was slow cooked for. The desserts too were home made and good.

Next time we are n the Guadalest ares this is where we'll be going!

“A wonderful stop for a great paella”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012

This is a charming old farmhouse, dating from the early 1900's, I believe. They have an extensive Spanish menu. The croquetas are excellent, the paella, the desserts. There are many options on the menu, a full bar, etc.
The owner greeted us when we arrived, and his daughter served us our meal!
A great stop after a visit to Guadalest and Fonts d'Algar. Have the "menú del día" at about 2 or 3 PM and you'll be set for the day.
