“A great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

I would like to give my strongest recommendation to the Nature Pavilion. This is not just a premier birding location both for birders and photographers it is a true nature happening. My experience here is this is one of the very best locations that I have ever spent my time photographing at - anywhere. The owners Dave and Dave are helpful to the highest degree you will ever receive, any question or assistance you may require they will get it done for you. The availability and diversity of birds to see is extraordinary. The Dave’s constantly set the food on perfectly camouflaged perches and the birds come all day long. The flow of assorted Hummingbirds is constant and never ending. The location is covered from any rain and viewing is 360 degrees open air. Not a hide making things difficult and hot. The open air is fantastic and comfortable.

They can also arrange other opportunities from frogs, reptiles, lizards and macaws.

They have a magnificent affordable accommodation rental with very secure parking. Even if you are not staying with them they will almost instantly respond to your questions in my visit planing portion they provided the fastest most comprehensive pre plan information. You also have computer access available along with electrical charging. Very close there is good food available along with convenience and grocery stores. There is good reason that this is a National Geographic selected location.

“Easy birdwatching”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

If you like birding, but you are not committed to walk more than 1 mile to get a picture, then this is the right place: in a nice setting, in a comfortable place you can observe, in a good day over 40 species of birds, some of them very attractive, with an excellent setting for picture. The owners Dave and David, was very nice, and able to answer and help to enjoy a great experience. Easy access from the main road.

“HIGHLY recommended for bird photographers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

The Green Honeycreeper had been high on my wish list of birds to photograph in CR so the Nature Pavilion was an AWESOME find. I was soooooo excited to get such wonderful views of males AND females! At the Pavilion, they have carefully chosen esthetically pleasing perches for the birds waiting to come in for a feed so your chances of getting a beautiful bird photo are quite good. The owner and his son were just delightful to talk to and made the overall experience even nicer.

You'll get a chance at more than just the honeycreeper though, we also saw a variety of tanagers, aracaris, just a really nice sample of some of the stunning birds in CR. You'll be shooting from a covered platform which we really appreciated because it started to rain when we visited in Feb. 2013. There are accommodations if you choose to stay a day or two. We didn't check them out but if the cleanliness of the public bathroom right by the covered platform is any indication, I would say the rooms have got to be nice. We only visited for a few hours but were still thrilled with the sightings we got in such a short amount of time.

If you are a bird photographer and you're headed to CR, add this to your list. You won't be sorry.

I remember how badly you wanted to photograph the Green Honeycreeper and as soon as you asked I knew the Nature Pavilion could deliver. It was a pleasure meeting the both of you. Hopefully next time you can spend a full day here and capture even more species on your wish list. Thanks so much for the great review. Hope to see you back her soon. Pura Vida!

“The "Wow" Factor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

Photographers are always on the quest for their "Wow" image, the picture that has impact and is unforgettable. The "Wow" term came to mind when seeking a fitting description of the Nature Pavilion, La Virgen, Costa Rica. You can tell immediately that this user friendly eco-observatory is a passion for father and son owners, Dave and Dave. It has been thoughtfully planned and designed with attention to every detail, making this the ideal location for bird photography.

The "Wow" starts with the large covered pavilion, a grateful respite from seasonal rains and the hot sun. The "Daves" have surrounded the pavilion with flowering bushes and trees to attract an amazing variety of birds. In addition to the first class pavilion, there are rainforest paths, flowers, butterflies and a covered porch with hummingbird feeders. There are clean restrooms just a few steps from the pavilion. They have cold bottled drinks for purchase, and the secure parking lot is within view of the pavilion. Note: They have a unique and beautiful guest house available for rental that is adjacent to the pavilion.

Both father and son go out of their way to make your photography experience successful and interesting. Son Dave eagerly shares his knowledge of birds and habitat. His dad is a wealth of information about reforestation, the country, people and customs. They were the only people who immediately answered my emails, a barrage of questions regarding not only photo expectations but also travel information.

Within minutes of setting up my equipment, I knew this would be an awesome photo experience. Watching bird after bird fly into the area to perch and feed makes this the perfect place for bird photography. No other location on this photo trip to Costa Rica came close to having the variety and frequency of birds that I was able to capture at Nature Pavilion. It truly deserves a "Wow".

Muchas Gracias from your friends Dave & Dave.

“Great place to relax, bird, and meet new people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

Spent the day here in July mainly taking bird photos and enjoying the company of the owners. A perfect place if you want easy access to many of the colorful birds found around gardens in Costa Rica, as well as a stunning canopy view out over the neighboring river and forest reserve. There is also a nice hike down by the river where Sunbittern and kingfishers can be found. Perfect if you want to chill, do some relaxed birding and practice taking pictures in a controlled environment. They have cold drinks and coffee on site, and there are lots of nice restaurants nearby. The owners are bilingual and incredibly polite and chatty.
