“Perfect family vacation spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

Beaches in Ocho Rios is an older property that has been several different resorts. It is REALLY a place for kids of all ages…they had activities for our entire crew of 19 with age ranges from 65 to 5 (children from 17 to 5).

Overall our trip was very good. We chose Beaches of Ocho Rios for our 2013 family vacation. Nikkishia, at the concierge desk worked very hard trying to make sure we had all our rooms right. All five rooms were perfect for each family. Justin finished out the details to make sure things went well for us.

Our room #2303 was nice with a shared lanai. It was close to both the pool and beach. Karen kept it in perfect order everyday. Our view was great and we had no foot traffic from other guests. All the rooms located in the main building accomdating our children and their families had views with balconies or French balconies.

It has a small, secured, beautiful beach area, which is a good thing because you can actually release the kids and not worry about them wandering away or getting in any kind of scary situation. Water sports were all included as were use of the water toys, and our crew used them all!

They have 4 restaurants which were pretty good overall as well as the buffet. The go to buffet, Bayside, served tasty diverse food. The menu changed daily but there were the favorites served daily. Don't miss Veneisha at the smoothy bar to start your day. Look for Mojo, Milton and Paula for good service and Miss Susan always seats you with a smile.

Neptune was our favorite restaurant. Many people don't realize it's open for lunch as well as dinner. Here you eat seafood over the water or overlooking the water. The fried shrimp appetizer (and I don't normally eat fried) was my favorite item the whole trip. Florian, the food and beverage manager, did a great job setting up us for a special birthday dinner over the water.

Elanore's was our disappointment. Service was very slow and the food wasn't what everyone cranked it up to be. We waited over an hour just for drinks. For "Surf and Turf" the steak was sinuey and very rare and our lobster ended up being shrimp. Daniel did his best to keep us pleased.

The Venetian restaurant was nice and the food was good. Here I go again liking fried, the calamari appetizer was done very well. I really enjoyed the Tiramisu. Delroy, the manager, has lots of pride in his restaurant and Roman was very entertaining.

Stop by the BarBQue Park and have Alvroy show you his serving tricks. We enjoyed the Jerk Chicken and Jerk Chicken pizza. The self serve area has great guacamole and meat pies.

All the bars served great drinks using name brand alcohol. Everyday there's a drink of the day...try them! My favorite was the French Martini made by, Ripton, at the Piano bar.

The big deal at Beaches was the attitude of the staff/workers- they ALL had great positive personalities and were very accommodating!

Nearly no-one was there without children/grandchildren, so that is obviously what they are all about. We met many families that were on their 3rd & 4th trip to this resort. Lots of Canadians and English families and lots of families from New England.

I have absolutely NO reservations about recommending this property to any family with kids of any age. The kids loved it! In fact, they said it was their most favorite resort yet, and they much preferred it over the RIU Palace properties we have gone to in Playa de Carmen, Negril, Punta Cana, etc.
I would not recommend this property to couples looking for romance or fine dining…that is not the deal at this property.

We spent the week of Feb.5 to Feb.12, 2013 at Beaches Ochio Rios. This was our first trip to Jamaica, and will not be our last. And we will definately be returning to this resort.
The staff was absolutely amazing here, and you were made to feel welcome and like family by everyone you met. A few I would like to thank for making our stay so memorable are Chloe, Renex and Ash from the kids club. Our teenagers had a great time hanging out with them. Gregory from the dive shop, who went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. Whorms and Arron at the swim up bar, who kept the Red Stripe flowing, milkshakes for the kids and who remembered which slushy drinks I had tried and made sure to make me something new. Marsha at the beach bar, who always had a sunny smile. Camille and Kirkland from Neptune's Restaurant with their jokes and brain teaser questions for the kids. Christopher for fixing our safe in time for me to get our tickets for Mystic Mountain out so we didn't miss out on the tour. Karen from housekeeping. Suewayne from the photo shop did a great job at capturing our family photos as an extra reminder of our stay here. Every staff member we met had a hello and a smile, even the ones who were working on the renovations to the resort.
The food was wonderful, especially the variety at the Bayside buffet. And I highly recommend that if you stay here, be sure to go to Nepune's for the steak. It was wonderful!
The beach may not be big, but it is well kept, and raked several times a day. The water bikes, sailboats, snorkeling and scuba were a huge hit with our teenagers. We had ocean front rooms, on the second floor, and the view from there is wonderful, and worth the money. They had a large terrace with a lounge chair, wicker chairs and a table.
The delivery of the Sunny Times to your room daily allows you to know what special events and daily programs are going on and what time and location to find them. There is always something to do for people of all ages. And there is nightly entertainment. The Sesame Street stage show is a hit with everyone, including the adults. Even our teenagers enjoyed it, and had to have their pictures taken with the characters.
Our room included conceirge service, which was great for booking our off resort trips. They even managed to get us discounts that we may not have gotten if we had tried to venture off resort on our own.
Everyone enjoyed the massages on the beaches, and my daughter and I enjoyed pedicures and cookies at the spa.
All in all, our family had an amazing and memorable trip to Jamaica, and we couldn't have picked a better resort to stay at.

Room Tip: The view from the ocean front rooms is spectacular, and are surprisingly quiet.

Beaches is a wonderful place, We travelled there to celebrate two special birthdays 50th and 13th. What a place! I can go on about the hotels but what makes this place is the staff. They are as warm and friendly as it gets. I would like to thank a few personally for making a vacation a trip of a lifetime. Samantha as the front desk, Judy at the dive center, Bruce Bruce, the beach staff Romanne, Gregory,Donald and Garcia and the BBQ staff Alvoy and Susquena and the the tour desk Latoya. you are all beautiful people! Thank you!

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same size the difference is the view. The are not huge but suitable for 5.

i went for 2 weeks with my wife ,children age 4 and 2 years old. overall was very good vacation.
resort ,small which work well for family, staff are very friendly and do everything possible to make you happy.

food was very good but limited choices compare to DR.

beach is small but generally you can find a spot. first week hotel was busy and was a little difficult, second week was not that bust and their were plenty of chairs.
I loved all the beach activity including kayak, snorkelling, and best i learned to sail. i give it to garcia and damiaon lee. both were excellent and took us sailing and teach me to sail.

overall very good vacation, hotel service is very good.

We recently returned from an outstanding week in Ocho Rios, Jamaica at Beaches. We travel as a large family group with 19 people of all ages from 5- 65. What was most impressive is the focus on family and the children. Their were always activities to keep everyone having a great time. The waterslides, pools, beach and watersports kept everyone in the family happy and active.

The staff at Beaches is wonderful. They made us feel at home. They focus on the children and adults alike. There are a few people who made our stay special I would like to mention.

Lammar- who works at the Kids Club. She is warm and a real professional in how she cares for the well being of the children.

Andre- Our favorite bar-tender at the swim up bar in the main pool. He introduced my kids to Jamaican smiles and made them feel like royalty. My daughter kept asking to go back to visit Andre every day. We appreciate his warm, smile, kind words and professionalism.

Shana- Our housekeeper. She kept the room in tip top shape. It was clean and always well stocked. She would sing as she worked and was lovely to be around. She seems very happy with her work.

Trevonia- He was a waiter who entertained us with many tricks and made for a fun evening.

Alvroy- The very talented waiter at the BBQ place. He would balance wine bottles on his head while dancing to Michael Jackson. He was always friendly and worked hard to accomodate our large family.

Bradley- Cooked for us breakfast and dinners on the grill. He was always polite and made pleasant conversation while he cooked us great food.

Garcia- Very nice coaching us with the sailboats and kayaks in the watersports area.

My family would vacation at Beaches again. Alot of fun.

We stayed here for a week with our two children for our 'weddingmoon'. It was our first trip to Jamaica but not our last. The hotel is faultless - polite, friendly, helpful staff; immaculate rooms; fantastic food and drinks (all premium brands). Endless water sports, boat trips for adults and children and a kids club for teenagers which our slightly dubious 16 and 12 year olds loved. Our wedding was organised and executed perfectly with minimal input and effort from ourselves. When a 16 year old boys cries on the flight home you know its been a good holiday. We will be back!

Booked this vacation for our child to go with us and keep adding to our sandals points. My wife and I are scuba divers and usually stay at a sandals due to the great resorts and the two daily dives they provide. So we booked and took my mother in law with us to watch our 4 year old in the am so we could dive in the am and spend the rest of the day with them. The kids pool and slides were great but she was to short to be allowed to slid down any of them which she hated. We go to water parks here in the state with larger slides which she is tall enough to ride. So except for the pool and beach no water park for her. But they did have 3 baby slides which she really didn't like. The food was great and the rooms really nice. Very clean beach just avoid the locals by the dive shop wanting to sell dope and braid your hair! They had a dive boat that was broke down and so you had to arrive at 6 am to sign up for a dive the following day and the staff was rude as hell. Their equipment was awful not like sandals and well taken care of. And the dives were as short as they could make them their only want was to hurry back to the dock and BS around the dive shop. Will Never Return again! And only due to the diving. The resort is great also the kid shows were also great so if you have a little older child or taller and care nothing about diving its a good place to go but divers stay away!
