“Beautiful Hotel with Amazing Proprietors”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2013

We stayed, as a family of five, at this absolutely amazing hotel in April of this year after having discovered it on Mr and Mrs Smith. The hotel is a gorgeous old building in a stunning location, however what really makes it stand out above and beyond any other similar types of properties is the love and attention it has been given by the owners.

Having both worked originally in the antique business in Spain, Jose and Nuria have furnished their hotel with the most beautifully put together eclectic mix of antiques and furnishings that really complement the building and allow you to be transported back to a period when the building would have been in its very naissance.

Their level of curation does not simply stop at the stunning fit out. Every little detail of your stay has been thoroughly thought out - from the calming selection of Nuria's music quietly playing in the background to Jose's impeccable selection of local wines and cheeses that he has put together from local suppliers.

For all of our three nights we spent at the hotel, we took dinner and breakfast everyday at the hotel simply because the food is absolutely excellent - even if we had already eaten out and were full....it's that good!

If you want to stay somewhere where you are not simply staying somewhere beautiful, but being cared for by such beautiful people....then you, for sure, cannot miss out on staying at Casona de Quintana.

We stayed here for 2 nights in early October with other friends from England. Upon arrival, I thought I had completed a booking, but found out I had not completed it. The couple that own and run it could not have been more accommodating. They gave us the only room left, the Tower Suite, for the same price as the double we thought we had booked. Exquisite property in a tiny, medieval village that had been completely renovated and furnished in a French antique style. They are antique dealers in the off-season and have a great eye for pieces and how to put them together. The food was outstanding, excellent gin and tonics in the bar, hiking in the national park that it abuts and a great place to unwind for a few days. Highly recommend it for ambiance, service, and food. Don't miss if you are in the region!

Room Tip: Any of the rooms are a delight. Great detail throughout.

From our first welcome from Jose we knew we had chosen the right place for a relaxing weekend in Cantabria. All the staff made us feel welcome and had great attention to detail. Jose himself was a mine of local information. We were very impressed with the quality of the restaurant, especially the simple seasonal food.

Room Tip: Our room, El Nogal, was near the front door/lobby area so at times felt a little noisy. But it was a...

Thanks to the website Mr. & Mrs. Smith, we discovered this extraordinary country retreat. After several days in major cities we wanted to retreat to the peace of the countryside. My only regret is only staying 2 days. The proprietors have an amazing eye -- the attention to detail is phenomenal -- loaded with lovely antiques and memorable touches. The dining experience was equally lovely -- not overly pretentious but delicious -- with a very extensive menu. The entire area around it is a national park....you can take a walk, lounge in the gardens or in the perfectly appointed common area where the perfect cocktail awaits you if you are in the mood. We have traveled a lot but this unique spot is truly one of the best travel memories I hold. If you are anywhere in northern Spain make this destination a must!

Room Tip: The tower suite is simply amazing with a private terrace.

A lovely hotel that has been beautifully done up. Very peaceful as others have mentioned and truly spectacular setting - I definitely want to visit this region again. Hosts were very hospitable, friendly and helpful. I would only want to stay here for 1 or 2 days max though - the breakfasts included an excess of sweet cake, and seemed to overlap with the desserts from the night before (i.e. kiwi with yogurt). The food also seemed very expensive if you didn't go for their menu of the season - wasn't that impressed with the cheese selection, for example - host seemed surprised when we ordered it. Room was also very hot and didn't feel very private as you could hear others in other rooms.

Wow - what a lovely stay in a beautiful place. Nuria and Jose gave a very warm welcome and although we do not speak Spanish, they really went out of their way to ensure we had a great break, and gave us helpful advice on places to visit. Casona de Quintana is a lovely place, it felt homely and the lounge and gardens were the perfect place to relax with drinks and a book after a long day. The food and wine was excellent - we ate breakfast and dinner there every day. A gourmet 6 course dinner was arranged especially for us to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and neither Nuria or Jose could have done more to make the evening extra special - lovely thoughtful touches at the table and fantastic food! Perfect! The region itself was beautiful. We will look forward to visiting again.

Jose invited us to think of the hotel as "our home" when we arrived. It might never be quite that, but it does reflect the gracious and hospitable welcome that we received. Others have mentioned how peaceful a place it is, and it certainly is a wonderful place to relax and slow down.

The quality of the food was excellent throughout our stay. Very fresh ingredients, beautifully cooked and presented by Nuria.
