My girlfriend and I ate here whilst on a break in Tullow. The restaurant looks lovely and clean on the outside and its right by the river. When we entered we stood for a couple of minutes, as there were no staff other than the chef (whom i presume is the owner). We were shown to a table and given the menu.
We ordered garlic bread to share for starters. I ordered steak and my girlfriend ordered curry for main. As we waited on our food, we noticed that the inside was a little tired........in that some of the walls had marks and chunks of paint missing, the skirting boards were discoloured with dirt. Some of the tables had different glasses laid out.....for example a table of six with 4 tumblers, 2 plain, 2 branded, and then two wine glasses, i know that something simple but you would expect all places to be set the same. As the kitchen is not separate from the dining area it can be quite noisy.
The food arrived (waited by the chef), the food was average a 6/10. For myself and my girlfriend the meal was 38euro, so not expensive!
In a nut shell, the staff (chef) was very friendly, interior needed updating/cleaned, regarding the food it was ok but not good enough to make me want to return.

Firstly I would like to thank you for your review on my restaurant.
At The Riverbank Restaurant we take all our feed back very serious.
As you and your girlfriend dinned in the afternoon is the reason why you were served by me (the chef, owner and also sometimes waiter) as during 3pm to 6pm the waitress is on a break and as you can appreciate in this climate it is impossible to be over staffed to stay in business and also it can be a very rare occasion now to be served by the owner!! Also the fully dressed restaurant upstairs opens at 6pm which includes a very extensive Dinner menu which consists of fresh prawn and crab-meat cocktail, homemade pate, goats cheese for starters while mains consist of Sirloin Steak, Dublin Bay Prawns, Pork fillet medallions Pan fried fresh Hake, Chicken stuffed with Sun-dried tomato pesto and wrapped in parma ham, then for desserts a wide selection of homemade desserts served with our homemade Ice-cream .
I am pleased to say we took your suggestions on board and just got the restaurant fully painted along with skirting boards.
So hopefully this will be of interest of you and you will be willing to try my restaurant again after 6pm so you can have the choice of food and service you are expecting.
