“Dissapointed”

Sunday lunch very dissapointing, re-heated overcooked meat & potatoes. Service not too bad by unfriendly staff. We will definately not return.

“OK for a basic pub lunch!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2014

I've called into The Woodborough on several occasions throughout the years but although the premises has suffered various changes, it is still quite a pleasant place and at least now you can now get good beers on draught - Butcome and Fuller's London Pride!
I had lunch the other day and was surprised to see a small lunch menu of only jacket potatoes with a selection of fillings and sandwiches, and if there was nothing on there you fancied, then it was back to the main menu which is served every day throughout the year - with no seasonal variations! There is also a board showing some rather pricey "specials". I suppose the management feel that as The Woodborough is the only pub in the centre of the village, they don't need to offer a regularly changing menu!
The staff ranged from the surly to the pleasant - perhaps some customer relations training might be a good idea, although the service wasn't too bad. The portions are average with a good sized piece of salmon but only 3 very small new potatoes on my plate, a small portion of carrots julienne and a whole heap of broccoli! I didn't bother with pudding/dessert as I thought that they were rather expensive.
One thing I didn't like on a recent evening visit were all the smokers blocking the main entrance and they wouldn't move - even when you asked them nicely!
OK for a drink or a plain meal but don't expect anything fancy!

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014

Ate here recently with family. Food only warm, chips awful. One of the dishes came with new potatoes and there were only three extremely small ones! A real shame as in the past have had some enjoyable meals here.

“Traditional pub”

There was a friendly atmosphere and it was fairly busy for a Monday evening. Tasty Pub food well presented and served piping hot. Staff were very pleasant.

“Top quality food, tasty filling and good value!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2014

This place is 100% about great food, no pretentiousness, relaxed pub dining experience but the taste and quality of a much more expensive retreat.
So long as they keep the belly pork the same (braised red cabbage, crackling, dauphinois potatoes and a tasty creamy sauce!) we will be back time and time again! This dish is £15 and literally worth every penny - if you ate this in a gastro style establishment you'd pay a whole chunk more and not think twice, so I say damn good value here - cheap isn't always the same as good value and this for me ticks the box!
