“The most perfect break!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

We had a short break in the Rainster cabin and I can honestly say it was the most perfect break we have ever had. Within minutes of arriving we all felt so relaxed. The scenery, location and attentiveness of David and Felicity all added to this.

Within half an hour of settling in our cabin, Felicity was asking if our eldest son wanted to join her in feeding the chickens - he returned full of chatter about feeding chickens, collecting eggs, brushing the horses and loving his farm experience. Our youngest son, who is 1 just loved the daily visits from the dogs and chickens and was so excited each morning to open the curtains and see the cows and horses in the field outside our window and the chickens wandering on the cabin lawn.

An excellent location, with lots of lovely places to visit nearby and some lovely walks. With 2 young children we mainly stuck to visiting the tourist attractions rather than walking the trails - but we did visit Ilam Park and walk through Dovedale which was lovely. At least this means we have an excuse to go back and do all the things we never had time to do! There are also some excellent pubs nearby serving great food and a good sized supermarket down the road in Matlock for those essentials.

All in all, an excellent break, the most perfect location to relax and unwind and brilliant accommodation. Everything is thought of, fresh linen and towels, well stocked kitchen with all the utensils you could ever need and books, games and DVDs to keep everyone entertained.

The welcome pack with fresh homemade bread, milk, fresh eggs (which make the most amazing scrambled eggs) and homemade biscuits really is a treat.

Perfect. Simply perfect.

Room Tip: No need to pack towels - Cabins come with lovely big fluffy ones!!

As a large family group of 15 people, we were delighted with the cabins. A wheelchair friendly cabin was available for our trip which had good accessibility. Upon our arrival, we found the cabins clean, warm, and with fresh bread, milk and eggs waiting for us. We chose to eat together as a group the first night in the largest of the cabins and found more than sufficient crockery and space to do this. The dishwasher made life easier and tablets, detergent and other cleaning products and toiletries were provided. Internet access was made available to us which allowed us to check out what was out there to do in the surrounding area and made organising activities hassle free. The owners were friendly and helpful too although we didn't need to have much contact as everything had been provided in the cabins. Bedding was clean and comfortable. Our dog was welcome in one of the three cabins we stayed in.

Room Tip: Book ahead for large groups as it may be possible to book more than one of the four cabins on site...

We had an excellent short break at Hoe Grange staying in Daisybank. This was our first time in a cabin, it was fitted out to a very high standard with every thing you could possibly need . As a wheelchair user it was easily accessible the fully fitted wet room was excellent, there was also a whirlpool bath in the bath room. The setting was lovely with lots of wildlife and farm animals to see,the staff were really helpful. There were plenty of places to visit nearby we will certainly be back

We had a lovely week in here in Daisybank. The accommodation was very accessible with my husbands very large electric wheelchair having no problem getting around. The kitchen was very well equiped with 12 sets of all crockery etc so that you didn't have to immediately wash up at every occasion. The location is very central for everything from reservoir and canal walks, cycle trails and country towns like Ashbourne to Matlock with its kids theme park and Matlock Bath. Only disappointment was that we could not access the cycle path from the caravan with a wheelchair.
A great spot.

We have just returned from another wonderful weekend at Hoe grange. This was our second visit last time we stayed in Hipley, this time in Pinder. we were myself and Husband, our adult Daughter and my Mum also two Horses. The cabins are superb, Mum said she could live in one of them! They are so well equipped we could not wish for anything more. All cooking utensils that you could wish for, Lovely organic toiletries, games and books, Numerous tourist info leaflets.... nothing has been overlooked. They are also spotlessly clean... and lovely fluffy towels.

David and Felicity are so welcoming and very helpful. Husband and Daughter had a lovely time with their horses enjoying the quiet roads and countryside. Mum and I enjoyed the little villages and meandering around the shops.

The cabins are also very well equipped for disabled use. In short if you want an excellent break or longer stay this is the place to come. We will be back, and look forward to it.

We stayed here for a week and had a super time.It was totally accessible for my family member in a wheelchair. The children loved feeding the animals and checking for eggs each morning. Hoe Grange is conveniently located to visit the lovely villages close by.The lodge was furnished to a very high standard and Mr and Mrs Brown were very welcoming. We hope to return very soon.

We booked 2 cabins, Daisybank & Rainster, for a relaxing country holiday with our grown-up son who's a wheelchair user with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and is very disabled. He occupied Rainster with his 2 PAs & we had Daisybank. Both cabins have the same first class facilities for a disabled visitor, including fully adjustable washbasin in the spacious adapted bathroom en-suite to his bedroom, whilst his PAs loved the spa bath and shower in their bathroom! Our son hired a profiling electric (Minuet) bed from Huntleigh Healthcare and an electric air mattress, which we had delivered on the day we arrived. David & Felicity could not have been more helpful, moving their beds out to make space for the hire bed, and our son used the modern Oxford mobile hoist they provide.
To make things easier we had some of the really delicious meals offered by Ed of Yumma Gumma, highly recommended!
We had some lovely trips out including walks/wheels along two of the disused railway trails nearby, the High Peak trail & the Tissington trail (nice accessible tearoom in Tissington!). Our son has recently become interested in bird-watching and we all enjoyed a session in the indoor accessible hide (heated in winter!) at Carsington Water where we were lucky to see a pair of Great Crested Grebes sitting on an egg right outside the hide! Most of the paths and hides around the reservoir are accessible. The bird-watching highlight though was on our doorstep, a Little Owl perched on one of the fence posts near the cabin most evenings!

A lovely relaxing holiday in beautiful comfortable cabins and we'll definitely be back!
