“Fab weekend, not long enough!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2014

I booked this weekend for my husbands birthday, and I wish i'd booked it for the whole week as it was brilliant! Our lodge was perfect - number 45. My husband likes to cook and there is everything you need in the kitchen. The shower room, bathroom, and bedrooms were all very spacious and the lodge was spotless through-out. There was no service on our phones but the wifi was very good. The Foresters Bar & Restaurant was great, we had a meal there on the Saturday night and the food was lovely - One thing I would say is there doesn't seem to be alot of seats for people who just want to drink it is mainly tables for people eating, although we didn't have a problem finding a seat! The staff are very friendly i.e. reception staff and bar staff. We will definately be returning this year !

Room Tip: We had Lodge 45 which includes a Spa, we found it to be very secluded. The sun was at the back in th...

Absolutely faultless! We rented a lodge for a long weekend to celebrate my 30th Birthday. The lodge was welcoming, clean, warm and included every kitchen accessory you needed. The staff were friendly, the spa was clean and checked regularly. Overall we have had an amazing weekend and will definitely be coming back!! The only negative points we have would be that we had a dirty plate left in the cupboard, crumbs were left on the dining table and the CD player didn't work but this was resolved quickly. Oh, and lots of beautiful wildlife!!

Room Tip: Lodge 90 seems to be a bit more secluded from the others...a lot more privacy!

Arrived 5pm for a 3 night weekend stay in a Haddon Spa lodge. Check in took seconds but was still polite and friendly. Lodge was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. The heating was good and there was a decent information pack. The fridge/freezer was a good size.
The spa was well screened and kept as clean as the lodge.
Its worth booking the restaurant when you get there or even beforehand. The food was quite good but only reasonable value. I had a 16oz T bone for £25quid which I thought was rather expensive.,
On the third night I ordered a take away curry from the Shalimar using one of the onsite payphones. It was delivered piping hot to the lodge and was arguably the best take away curry Ive had.
There's no phone signal (didn't want one anyway) and the wifi was adequate and free.

Room Tip: Get a Spa lodge. Spend a bit more it's worth it.

We rented 3 lodges this last weekend to accommodate a family birthday where 15adults and 4 children attended, the eldest adult being mid eighties so quite a broad cross selection, oh and we mustn't forget the baby as well!
Firstly I must pay compliment to the initial booking and the excellent team who so very calmly, professionally and politely dealt with my booking and my follow-up queries, they were GREAT!
Our check in went well, no hick ups, no awkward moments just courteous friendly people just wanting us to have a nice time, can't say more than that, well done reception team!
Accommodation and location were great, the lodge was clean, well kitted out and practical with plenty of room (we had 8 birth)
Absolutely recommend and will return.
Improvements? Well just a few suggestions

1. The 85 year old likes her tv! The satellite reception was dreadful and needs some investment
2. The large cabin has same size fridge as small cabin, it really needs to be bigger, so too the freezer.
3. Seems odd that our large cabin did not come with hot tub?
4. The main one that you really need to address is the bar/restaurant where, with the exception of tomato soup, all £300s worth of food was very, very , very poor. It was bland, tasteless and in some cases burnt to a cinder! You really need to use a chef who can cook, spend a little money it would be worth it because this meal left us with an unfavourable impression as everything else (non restaurant related) was great. The serving staff were nice, just the food wasn't sorry.

Thank you for your feedback on your stay at Darwin Forest. We are sorry there were a couple of areas you were not fully happy with and we shall seek to improve them. We were not aware of any large groups being disappointed with their meals in the Foresters Bar & Restaurant or we would have tried to resolve the issues on the night.

Just spent a weekend at Darwin Forest Darley Moor near Matlock for a 60th birthday. We hired 2 lodges and had a fantastic time, something for everyone and local villages to see. Had read previous reviews and comments about uncomfortable beds,we did not find this to be the case, the beds were great, the lodges were spotless and lovely and warm. Some of us even spent an afternoon in the hot tub with champagne and strawberries. We all had a great time and would highly recommend anyone to spend some quality family time together there

Stayed here in February for four nights. We stayed in the Haddon Classic Lodge. The lodge was spotless and had everything you could possibly want. Kitchen was fully equipped and we had a welcome pack of tea coffee when we arrived. Lounge was comfortable and warm. It snowed when we were there and we stayed nice and warm inside. Bedrooms were roomy and Beds were very comfortable. Plenty of Towels were provided and overall a lovely stay in a lovely log cabin at a great price. We went to the Spa most evenings at a cost of £10 each for four sessions . We spent a hour in the sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. This is used by people who are not on the complex but whilst we were there it didn't get to busy.Found it nice a secluded. Didn't find any places to eat near buy,but we didn't try the on site restaurant. Stayed in most nights and made or own meals. Overall had a great four night stay and would defiantly return. Next time in a cabin with a Jacuzzi.

I live locally so have never stayed in the accommodation. However Little Monkeys soft play centre great for the little ones, clean, good food reasonable price; don't have to be staying at the park to visit
