“Already planning the next visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2013

A colleague recommended this place after he had visited several times and loved it. My partner and I booked a lodge with the sauna, jacuzzi and hot tub. Our lodge was at the very end of the site, which was lovely and quiet. The cabin facilities were amazing. All very clean and well kept. The jacuzzi was brilliant! Staff came by regularly to check the hot tub. We didn't go to the restaurant or bar on site, but reception staff have us some great recommendations on where to eat and go. We really loved our mini break there as it was everything we were looking for in a mini break. During our time there a bonfire and fireworks display was on site. One of the best displays I've been to! Adults and children loved it! The only downside was limited wifi and no phone signal and the fact we had only booked 3 nights there :( Already planning when we are going back next!

Have stayed here before but 15 years ago so very different from before. Reception and shop now where original swimming pool were and new build for present pool and gym. Pool quite small but pleasant. We stayed in lodge 43, an elite riber spa for 4 persons and it really was superb. Spacious, exceptionally clean, lovely décor, the only criticism for me would be the showers are both weak and the one in the main en-suite needed de-blocking as the tray filled up quickly. The hot tub was well worth paying the extra money and was bigger than I'd anticipated having various seats and jets etc. A maintenance man came along each day to check the hot tub and kindly brought along a suitable step to help get in and out. Plenty of storage space all around the lodge. We ate at the Forresters on Sat night and was pleasantly surprised and pleased with the meal after reading the reviews. Staff in all areas of the park were friendly and efficient. We visited surrounding areas and would recommend: Grouse and claret at Rowsley next to the shopping outlet. Went to Caudwell mill also at Rowsley but was very disappointed with that. Went to Chatsworth on the Saturday to Christmas market that was fabulous and then into the house to see the lion the witch and the wardrobe display which was beautiful. Don't bother with Chesterfield although did have a super meal at the Old Post restaurant there for Sunday Lunch.

Room Tip: Worth paying for a private hot tub.

off to Darwin again next weekend...a group of 8 fiftysomethings have met at Darwin and sandybrook over the last 6 years and have loved both sites. The lodges are always very clean and comfortable and the staff always friendly and helpful. The only disappointment have been the restaurants which have been ok but nothing to write home about...if this could be sorted then a 100% experience ! simplify the menu and do it well.

Room Tip: Its' all good, go for it.

Stayed for a long weekend in 6 bed cabin with hot tub.
Our cabin was ready at 1.30pm so we were lucky and checked in straight away. The reception was friendly and informative.
In fact every single member of staff we spoke to during our stay were friendly and helpful.
Our lodge was warm, clean, had everything we needed. The hot tub was fab, and serviced twice daily.
Little Monkeys is the best indoor play centre I've ever been too, very clean, food and drink good and also reasonably priced.
Have to stick up for the Foresters restaurant after poor reviews on here, we found both food and service to be excellent, we also really enjoyed the Sunday night quiz.
The only let down was Evolution. Very difficult to book spa treatments, a week ahead in term time and virtually no availability. Sadly the treatments that were booked were then cancelled due to staff sickness. Maybe more therapists needed if it's this busy. Also no towels provided so you have to bring the ones from your cabin.

However this did not ruin our stay, kids enjoyed the hot tub, mini golf, trim trak and games room.
Cabins are fully equipped and are immaculately clean.
Will definately return.

From checking in to checking out, everything ran smoothly. Friendly reception staff. Found the lodge exceptionally clean and the hot tub ready and waiting!! I don't normally write reviews but having read quite a few negative comments regarding the on site restaurant, I thought I should share my experience. Myself and my family very nearly gave the restaurant a miss after reading the reviews, in fact, the only reason we ended up here was the long waiting time at a restaurant nearby. The restaurant had a nice feel to it, it was exceptionally clean. The lady who served us was very friendly. The majority of us had a Sunday roast. We found the food lovely, presented very well and good portion sizes. Worth a visit!

Have to echo other reviewers comments about Darwin Forest. The lodges are exceptional and the cleaning standards would put some 5-star hotels to shame. Everyone is very friendly, yet still totally professional and all appear happy to have a chat or give assistance, especially the Reception Team and the chaps that appear twice daily to maintain the hot tubs. The complex is immaculate and has developed over the years to provide everything you could possible need - even a shower and drying area for dogs! We used the restaurant just the once and the food was plentiful, well presented and tasty. It really is difficult to find any fault with Darwin Forest.
