Description: This beautiful 16th Century village Inn is ideally located on the banks of the River Frome at Freshford, on the outskirts of Bath. The surrounding countryside is part of The Cotswolds Area Of Outstanding Beauty and is favoured by many cyclists, joggers and walkers - the pick of the trails being the Two Valleys Walk. With original timber beams, open fires, a pretty beer garden, ample car parking and a very warm welcome - the Inn is a true destination pub serving great food, and real ales from our sister company - Box Steam Brewery. We pride ourselves on fresh food and friendly service - children and dogs are both very welcome. We're sure you'll find that nothing is too much trouble for us! With seasonal contemporary menus delivered expertly by our kitchen team - plus daily specials, Sunday roasts and food-led events all year round - there's something for everyone here. Why not check out one of our many Live Music nights too?

“Don't go here in the evening.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

I have been to the Inn at Freshford many times over the years since I was a student in Bath in 1986. Lovely village, the Inn itself is a lovely old stone building and while pleasant inside it is more of the traditional village pub than a `gastropub`, which is refreshing. Pretty garden, lovely views. OK for a drink, OK for lunch. Our last few visits have been underwhelming on the service and food front but after last night I will not be going again. Slow lacklustre service, poor choice of food (`pub classics` and nothing remotely appealing or healthy.) One of the dishes we ordered was beyond awful last night and all the rest was deep fried and nasty. Puddings looked nice enough but at £5.95 each added considerably to the cost of the meal for 5. Not recommended, sadly.

“Great Pub in Great Setting!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

Glad I did not come to this pub in a larger vehicle than a VW Beetle!! The lanes around Freshford are so narrow! However good parking available at the side of the pub.
Nice welcome, good selection of beers and ciders, all ideal for the 30° outside temperature. Cooler in the bar and nice table in the breeze through the back door!!
Excellent choice of lunch menu, some light snacks but also something more substantial if needed. Best roast chicken sandwich with chips I have had. Looking forward to next time.

“Mixed...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Wonderful location, good beer selection, reasonably chirpy staff... Those are the good bits.
After waiting just under an hour for our evening food to appear, I got up to ask when it might arrive. The apologetic server checked with the kitchen and apparently it was 'just being started'! Now, a posh burger and fish and chips don't take long to prepare, but when they then turned up within four minutes I was suspicious - and rightly so. The fish was barely cooked and the burger charred on the outside but not even warm in the middle.
The place was buzzing and fairly full, but you'd hardly say it was over-run that night. For the kitchen to be so overwhelmed smacks of poor management/organisation. The staff also seemed at the end of their collective tethers - it was hardly a warm pub welcome - more like panic stations. Yes, I should have complained at the time, but I doubt the staff would have had the time to talk to us. We just wanted out.
So if you fancy a stressful night out in a beautiful place...

“Worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

A perfect summer evening out with friends to celebrate a birthday. The barman apologised for the slight delay in taking our drinks order as they were short staffed and very busy. Despite this, they still were able to remember to put a candle that I had supplied into a pudding for the 'birthday boy'. Wonderful food and friendly, efficient service despite the short staffing issue. We have been several times and each time have not been disappointed. If you like jazz, go on a Thursday evening when there is a live jazz band that play.

The watermelon and feta cheese salad as a starter was huge and quite delicious, would have chosen the watermelon for pudding as well, but opted for the strawberries and raspberries. The chicken parmagianna was delicious and the helpings are on the generous side. All in all a very enjoyable visit and will certainly be booking again.

“classic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

A classic English pub in a cute village setting, a little off the beaten track. There have been changes of chefs and ownership over the years and it is currently good.
