Recommended by a local taxi driver, we stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. It's family owned and low key in the sense that the restaurant is not open continually and the hotel shuts down and you are given a key for access. It wasn't a problem for us but I can see where it limits their service abilities. We arrived late and they prepared a plate of food for us even though the restaurant was closed. There is an outdoor cafe to the faciltiy which is quite nice and which I enjoyed even though the restaurant was closed. It was a nice area to relax and the hotel people got us a bucket of ice for our drinks... very nice. The manager of the hotel helped me with some sight seeing tips and looked up some things online. Our room was nice but it faced the hillside and this is the lake district so next time I would request a water view room. I found it interesting that the tv automatically shuts down at night... no notice... not that I was understanding the German speaking tv... but it would be nice to know ahead of time. There are a lot of restaurants along the waterfront but the nearest trattatoria had the best dinner - try the lasagna - we had while in Ascona. The only sporadic problem we had in Ascona was a reluctance for service personnel to use English. Nice low key village type atmosphere with water activities.
