“Great choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

Absolutely lovely. Views from bedroom balcony stunning. Food good. Having a pre dinner drink in the garden looking out over the lake - is what holidays are all about. The staff and particularly reception were very helpful and knowledgeable. Only downside - when walking back from town the climb up the steps back onto the road is not for unfit people, the answer take the car - plenty of good car parking on the lake front. If I owned the hotel I would negotiate with the owners of the funicular which runs alongside the steps and seams to look at you as you make the long climb for it's use by hotel guests. There again it did not spoil our stay, and I would certainly use this hotel again when staying in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for one facing the lake - what a view.

You can't beat the views from most places in this hotel. It's all lake and mountains. Stunning. The rooms are lovely, but I got one of the cheaper older ones. Still super comfortable, but the newer rooms with views are truly wonderful. Shower is great, the bed is super comfy, fast wifi, some English TV, excellent breakfast and friendly and efficient service. Can't really fault it but I only don't give it one more star due to the location (can't really walk to Ascona center) and to the price... Would definitely stay again though, it's wonderful.

Room Tip: I would pay extra for the fabulous view from the newer rooms next time

We have been to this hotel three times and are going to book again in April.
Luca, the director, has a great sense of humour, is extremely helpful as are all of the staff and gives of his time freely.
The hotel is peaceful but yet vibrant with all aged groups enjoying themselves with a small indoor pool in the grounds which are well kept.
It is close to Ascona where one can go by ship to Locarno and Italy. Locarno is near to the valleys which are interesting to explore eg Valle Versasca where The dam was used in Golden Eye, the James Bond film.
We have stayed in different rooms each time one of which was a huge family room with included two car shaped beds for children. There were other beds as well, sitting areas and so much room to move around.
There are tables and chairs outside the restaurant for drinks and/or breakfast and dinner with a wonderful view over the lake and the surrounding scenery. This view is enhanced when darkness falls and all the lights from villages and a dam up high across the water can be seen.
The food is very good and presented imaginatively.

.

Room Tip: The higher floors have better views over the lake a few with balconies.

The hotel was in the beautiful Italian part of Switzerland, on Lake Maggiore - this area is amazing to explore as, as well as the lake, there are incredibly beautiful valleys running up the mountain with great villages, walking trails and restaurants. This was all explained to us by Luca, the very helpful front of desk manager.
The hotel is very nice - great rooms, and views (balcony overlooking the lake a real plus). The lobby area is a bit small and tired, but lovely restaurant area and breakfasts are very good.
Pool area tired, pool indoors.

Room Tip: There is a modern wing, where rooms are much more fashionable, and much bigger terrace - however old...

Just returned from a lovely 5 nights at this hotel. We had a superior room with balcony and sun terrace overlooking the lake. It was a real privalege to lay on the terrace on loungers at 11 oclock at night enjoying the lights over the lake and from the surrounding villages. The breakfast buffet was brilliant and always provided a substantial start to the day. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Whilst the location is excellent in relation to the lake , you do need a car if you intend eating out as there is no restaurant etc within walking distance and it is definately not easy to walk to Ascona centre. The safer way takes about 30mins and is alright going but would involve a very steep climb coming back. We walked along the coast which was fine for about 2/3rds of the way but the rest is along a very busy dangerous road with no pavement ( not recommended). There is a very awkward hairpin bend entrance to the car park but luckily the road is very quiet and did not cause a problem. The indoor swimming was very good and there is plenty of room in the grounds to sit/ lay and enjoy the lake etc. The walk down to the private beach area is distant and not easy and I feel is only for those determined to dip their toes in the lake ( do it in other lido areas instead). No coffee or tea making facilties in the room which is a shame although the staff are happy to supply hot water if you have your own tea bags. A very expensive place to stay but ALL establishments are in switzerland due to the strength of the Franc, but when spending the money this hotel gives great value and I would not hesitate to stay here again if I were in the area.

We stayed here 5 days in one of the family suites--a corner room with a large bed and two bunk beds. The views of Lake Maggiore and the lush vegetation were breathtaking from all vantage points. We slept at night with the windows flung open, enjoying the tropical breezes and the occasional showy thunder and lightning storm. Breakfast on the terrace was a glorious spread. The staff was kind and helpful. We greatly appreciated the small fridge in the room, which allowed us to store drinks and snacks from the local Migros. Water pressure and cleanliness and mattress quality were PERFECT. Only complaint? The wifi is not very strong in the room, but was very strong in the warm and comfortable lobby. But this was a very small inconvenience in the face of such beauty and comforts otherwise.
