Loved the hotel facilities and the view. The staff was nice enough to upgrade us upon us not loving our first room. Nanny service for our baby helped us enjoy meals in peace. Breakfast can be improved.

Absolutely loved this hotel: the quiet, the view, the food, the privacy. I would highly recommend booking a room facing the lake, as the the views across the water are gorgeous, as are the sunsets. A picturesque hiking trail begins right behind the hotel and travels up the side of the Rigi. Room service was great. I've had a lot of club sandwiches from a lot of fine hotels and this one was by far my favorite.

What I especially loved about this hotel is that I feel like it can be whatever you want it to be. Overkill luxury or a quiet, unobtrusive hideaway. I used it for the latter, hiked and spent a lot of time on the balcony in my room, and it was perfect, the service friendly and unpretentious. I will definitely be back.

(Travelled April 2014)

Room Tip: Lake-facing rooms are marvelous

Switzerland itself has wonderfully dramatic landscapes, and has many “luxury” hotels that sit happily in beautiful lakeside settings with snow capped mountains somewhere in the distance to round off the picture. In this sense, Park Hotel Vitznau is not unique, however, in virtually every other aspect it is in a universe of its own.

The entrance itself is dramatic and there is a sense of openness and space; the reception desks are all glass and almost float so as not to interrupt the fluidity of this area. The moment that one enters the property one has an uninterrupted view of the lake and mountains beyond. This sense of space continues throughout the entire hotel. The attention to detail in absolutely everything is truly second to none, even the lifts – themselves glass cubes – have a view of uniquely decorated lift shafts with different murals on each floor.

The rooms – all categorised as junior suites or higher – are all one of a kind. Often hotels advertise their accommodation as being individually designed, and this often means different layouts or variations of soft furnishings in different colour ways, but essentially variations on a theme, here each suite truly is unique. A nice touch is that unoccupied rooms have their doors pushed back, and one can peer in through glass sliding doors into each of them – a nice way to perhaps choose where one wishes to reside on one’s next stay.

I was in a lakeview suite, so of course it goes without saying that the view was superb, but equally superb was the accommodation itself. My room had a garden theme, so the furnishings were chosen to evoke the feel of a bright and airy summerhouse. Even though it was not necessarily my personal taste, I had nothing whatsoever to complain about and I really appreciated the design and obsessive attention to detail. I have stayed in many of the world’s best hotels and this is by far the best all round suite that I have every stayed in. The green marble bathroom, and green marble guest cloakroom beautifully complemented the rest of the design, and were of exceptionally high quality. All of the fixtures and fittings really are the best of the best.

The kitchenette area housed a full sized fridge, the “minibar” was full of complimentary drinks. Whilst this hotel can never be described as cheap, it feels exceptionally generous, and is truly excellent value. In reality, is it better to charge a guest say CHF15 for a bottle of Coca Cola in the minibar or to offer it for free and ensure that the guest feels nurtured and cared for? Even half bottles of wine were complimentary. This style of generosity is something that I have never seen outside of deluxe resorts in Asia; if only more European hotels could start to follow Vitznau’s lead.

The spa is unsurprisingly of the highest quality too, with a vast aquarium providing a suitably dramatic backdrop to the wet area. Even the swimming pool has had windows let in to the side of it in order to provide light and fluidity in the space. The thought that has gone into it really shows. This is not just another architectural project that has been built to a budget, it feels as if form and an almost obsessive attention to detail have triumphed and the accountants have fortunately played second fiddle to this. The half indoor/outdoor pool is of course a delight as is the large Jacuzzi all of course with the wonderful lake and mountain views.

Dining options are of an equally high standard (see my separate review of the exceptional Restaurant Focus). Breakfast ranges from the classic to the more contemporary such as baba ganoush served with homemade flatbreads. It is of course of the highest quality and fits very well with the contemporary style of this property. Room service is equally thoughtful and has the guest in mind, offering a variety of “snack” options in addition to more substantial dishes.

All in all I cannot say enough about how wonderful this property is, and as a guest, how relaxed and generous it feels. Every other luxury hotel in Switzerland charges for parking, charges city tax, whereas Vitznau has exactly the right idea, to have a robust enough rack rate that they can include all of these things and a lot lot more.

As a European hotel Vitznau really is a first for me – it delivers ultra high (think the best Asian resorts) service standards in conjunction with an absolutely exceptional hard product, as well as offering innovative cuisine of the highest international standards. It is without question the finest property in Europe, standalone every aspect is beyond compare, and when it is all put together it is mind blowing. My biggest disappointment was only having booked a weekend’s stay – I am already trying to find time to spend a week or more enjoying the Park Hotel Vitznau experience!

Room Tip: All rooms are unique - I can't imagine that there is a "bad" room here!

There is no words for the level of quality of this hotel.
From the entrance that looks through the hotel all the way to the mountains opposite the lake, the very 2020 reception welcome, key rings, lifts, etc.
WOW
Some modern features gave us some giggles such as the twin beds on wheels which "travelled" overnight every time we turned around and almost ended up in the bathroom, but the beds can adjust up and down like at home, amazing!
Had dinner at Focus which I will review separately! Worth it, really!
Would go back when I am in that area again.

We stayed at the hotel for New Year's Eve including 9-course dinner at restaurant focus. Food is avant-garde and tasty, wine/champagne prices quite expensive though. It was our second stay at this hotel and we loved it. Again, perfect service, relaxed ambiance, good food. We enjoyed the spa indoor very much (never crowded), while in summer time, we preferred to lounge outside by the lake. This time, we had the huge, bright and airy Stanford Juior suite (mountain side) which we can recommend. No lake view, but still with an nice mountain view and much cheaper and as good as the suite we had last time. Every room is unique but all with the highest quality, comfortable and special design. We will stay here again.

Our family surprised us with a one night stay in a junior-suite mountain view, including a nine course! dinner at the fantastic focus restaurant.

One word: PERFECT! Very friendly and professional staff. Top quality food and service. Extensive wine list although we went with the excellent accompanying wines at dinner. Very well decorated room with high quality materials and superb bath-room. Excellent spa area including a heated indoor/outdoor pool and jacuzzis.

We stayed in many top hotels in- and outside Switzerland but the Park Hotel Vitznau is definitely one of the best hotels worldwide. We shall be back soon.

Room Tip: Does not really matter as all rooms we have seen looked brillant. However, if you can afford it, go...

We spent 3 nights at the hotel and everything - and I mean everything - was more than perfect. The suite is amazing, every little detail was designed to spoil us :) the food was perfect including the wines and juices at breakfast. The spa is a state of the art and one of the most amazing we ever experienced. I can actually say that this is the best hotel we have ever been to.
