This hotel is right on Lake Lucerne in a quaint town called Weggis. This hotel had a fantastic room overlooking the lake with three balconies. We could watch the lake while we showered! The room was large, clean and comfortable. Access to Lucerne is easy by boat from the Weggis ship station taking about 40-45 minutes. The views are incredible, and the price much more reasonable than staying in Lucerne. The food was also great at this hotel. We paid 290 euro for the room with the lake view, for three people. The staff is very attentive to details, parking is free. Internet access in the lounge on the first floor. Grocery store nearby to buy water or snacks.

We spent 3 lovely nights at this friendly, clean and quiet hotel. It was an ideal way to start our 2 weeks in Europe. Our room overlooked the lake and was large and comfortable. We did half pension and the food was great, they also have a reasonablely priced wine list. As the weather was beautiful when we were there we ate our evening meals in the lakeside garden and watched the sunsets.

The staff was friendly and offered suggestions on how to spend in our days in the area. We never drove our car the entire time we were there.

There is a free computer in the lounge guests can use to access the the internet.

This is a very well-run unpretentious and comfortable family hotel with helpful staff, most of whom speak good English. The hotel is across a road from Lake Lucerne - but we were not troubled by traffic noise. The restaurant - on the lake shore with wonderful views - is excellent (good grills especially) and worth the (quite high) prices. It's popular, so book ahead. Weggis is a sleepy place of hotels and retirement homes, so don't expect a hot night-life beyond the decorous entertainments put on by the municipality on the lake front - and occasional oompah bands. Regular ferries run to Lucerne - but the last one back is quite early (about 7pm I think), so this is not the place to stay if you want to experience Lucerne at night. But if you are looking for somewhere close to Lucerne that's peaceful and (for Switzerland) good value, then I highly recommend this hotel.

Locals first told us of this hotel and its fabulous food... they pack it on Saturday nights. Ask for "Beni's Poulet". We decided to spend a couple of nights there about 20 years ago and have been making it a regular stop ever since. The views are magnificent, the rooms are spacious and immaculate, the Nanzer family continues to upgrade and improve the hotel each year...and the value is palpable. Weggis is a treasure and Gotthard is a gem.
