“Location, location, location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

Okay- so I spent 4 days at this hotel this winter taking advantage of "low" ski season and fantastic snow and immense vertical drop in Saas Fee...

The main thing about this place is the 50m between its front door and the Alpine Express high speed telecabine up the mountain. You literally can ski down the piste all the way to the hotel front door- Wonderfully rare for a hotel that is not directly on the piste. Even though we stayed there at a special rate (normal rates are quite reasonable) it made the trip totally worth it.

You would agree if you saw the loads of tired skiiers (a) trudging back to their hotels with ALL their kit/kids/stuff (b) crumpled in a sweaty, tired, chilly heap waiting for the electric navette/hotel shuttle/taxi (Saas Fee is car free) to pick them up, or (c) loading their kit into the "remote" lockers owned by their hotels closer to the telecabine, and THEN trudging back to their hotels....Ugh...

No Thanks....

I much preferred the heated ski and boot lockers available (be careful walking down the external stairs- Slippery!), solid (not stunning) breakfasts and a wonderful jacuzzi, sauna and wellness room in the basement for your aprés ski plans- Superb. The hotel is also 10 mins walk from the center of the village for restaurants and shopping, and even closer to the grocery store, post office and other amenities.

Hotel management was lovely and typically Swiss- warmly welcoming, responsive, friendly, multilingual. But this IS Switzerland, so there are a few rules that you have to know about.

While the dinners served at the hotel are very good, you have to look at the menu in the am after breakfast and let the manager know if you would like something else to eat (for veggies for example) and he will come up with an option with the kitchen.

You also have to sign up for a slot for using the wellness room. To be fair the sauna/jacuzzi facility is not very big, and if everyone and their mother went down there at the same time, it would get a bit tricky. But just be aware of this if you stay there during high season- Like I said, I was there during low season with fewer people in the hotel so it was not a major thing.

The food was quite good, but very Swiss- I personally prefer bigger portions and more- unhealthy? post skiing meals and was often left wanting a bit more...

The room was lovely, but a bit chilly- Again, to be fair, the manager told us that since the hotel was not full, the heat was not on full blast, and helpfully gave us a space heater to help. Not sure how much it heated the room, but the effort was appreciated...

The bed is the classic "Swiss Double"- Composed by two mattressed placed side by side, leaving a substantial "valley" in between them- Yes the duvet was divinely soft and warm, but I had some sore muscles when I was caught sleeping in the "valley"

Okay, so these are small things- the hotel is a wonderful faciity with a world class location- being able to put on your skis next to the Saas Fee glaciers at 3500m, and then take them off 20-30 mins later at the front door of your hotel at 1800m MORE than made up for these little annoyances- I will be back....

Room Tip: Sunshine rooms are just that! A bit pricier though. Also look into staying during low season (&quo...

A cute, very Swiss, place to stay while visiting Saas Fee. I ate all my meals there during my stay and they were all great. The hotel is also very clean and spacious with a badminton/sport court, field, gym, amazing spa and ping pong/games room. I have found memories of sitting on my deck sun tanning on days when the lift was closed in the summer. It is also right next to the main gondola going up to the hill in the summer as well as being next to the rotobaun (kind of like a roller coaster). Beautiful, clean, family run.

Stayed here with my teenage son to do a few days skiing. Location is excellent right opposite the Alpin express, a major cable car lift, and you can ski back down almost to the front door. Very clean hotel with all the basics covered. Breakfast a bit basic with a lack of variety but still reasonable quality. Good quality sauna and whirlpool which for some reason I couldnt work out you have to book up beforehand! Overall a good experience and reasonable value for money
