This May was very wet and cold. Out of six weeks, we had 1 sunny day and 2 days without rain. Each time I go to Europe, I hike Val Roseg. We started off with umbrellas and walked past the horses who pull the carriages. As we walked, the rain stopped. We did not see any other hikers - just a couple of bikers. The binoculars came in very handy when we spotted chamois (Gemsen.) We also saw many marmots (Murmeltiere) on the other side of the stream. I guess, they enjoyed the beautiful day too. When we finally arrived at the Hotel Roseg, we were greeted by a very friendly young man with the words: "I didn't expect you yet". We were wondering how he knew we were coming. Somebody at the beginning of the trail had called him to tell him that three not so young ladies were coming. He did not have any guests that day but kept open for us! We were delighted and had a Wurst and beer. We had hoped to fetch the horse drawn carriage down - but not such luck. It was Pentecost Monday, it was rainy and nobody, except the three of us, hiked through this beautiful valley. When you are in this area, don't miss this beautiful and easy hike!
