“OK, but not that great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

We were in the Alpina for a short ski vacation. The location is ideal for skiing because it is in short walking to the Gotschnabahn. The service and restaurant personnel are very polite and helpful, rooms are clean, spacious and quiet. Breakfast is for a four+ star hotel nothing special, even on the first day there were not enough croissants and rolls. We had one diner in the Bündner Stube (not the Gourmet restaurant), it was expensive and average. We ordered saddle of lamb (main course) and got lamb chobs (at least lamb?!?!) without any further comments - stupid tourists (?!?). Due to the fact, that we were hungry, we ate it....The wellness area has a large pool; Sauna etc. might need some renovation (even it is clean). Overall I do not understand, why this hotel is number 1 at Tripadvisor for Klosters. Next time, I will go there, I will try another hotel.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

My wife and I spent four nights here this month. The Alpina is located on the town's main street, across from the train station. Perfect location.

The family running the hotel, and all of the staff members are lovely. Service could not be better.

We stayed in two rooms: A larger, Samina room and then a smaller front facing classic room in the Annex facing the station. In general, the Samina is much larger and feels like a suite, although with less traditional decor. It can feel a bit dark. Also- some people might find these special beds too firm. The traditional rooms are tight with luggage, but bright and lovely. The mattresses are far softer here, but quite comfortable.

Our only issues: like many European hotels, there is no in room thermostat (though you can control the radiator). The hotel is very overheated even with the radiator off, and you need to keep the windows open at night. The street noise, which is intermittent, can be quite disturbing. The hotel was good enough to provide a fan for background noise. The other issue was a lack of hot water at 6am as we prepared to leave for a flight. We were told that there was a mechanical problem so I assume that this is a rare problem.

Next, we wished the hotel had wifi. There is an ethernet connection at the desks in the rooms, but this doesn't work with many newer airbooks and the like. Not having in-room wifi is a real issue in 2012.

Overall we greatly enjoyed the hotel, lovely lobby and restaurant, beautiful breakfast buffet and spectacular and personalized service. This is a great choice for most visitors to Klosters.

We received a very warm welcome when we arrived.
Room was very nice, we had a balcony as well.
The lobby is very cosy.
At breakfast we were given a personalised letter with some interesting information about places to go to in the area.
Breakfast was very nice by the way with excellent service and attention to detail.

Upon our departure, we asked for some advice for a walk in the area.
We were given bottles of water to use during our walk.
This attention to detail is remarkable.

I have stayed in hundreds of hotels in my life, this one was probably one of the very best.
We will return here.

A one week stay in summer was quite different from our winter break there, but also marvellous. Staff are warm and welcoming. Klosters is quiet but beautiful. Wonderful hikes, tennis, saliling. All the shops have big end of season sales from end August

This was our fourth stay at the Alpina and every time the service is exemplary, from the initial booking all the way throughout to the departure. This I think is due to the fact its a family run hotel and they understand that local charm, local produce, good quality food and a friendly service is what keeps them ahead of other hotels in the resorts of Davos and Klosters. Will be staying again in the next ski season.
