This restaurant lived up to the two previous reports on Trip Advisor. The welcome was genuine for all guests and the menu was fully explained with drawings! They take an obvious pride in their family run restaurant. If the french language is a bit daunting for you the proprieters can all speak good english and will fully explain and answer any questions. Fresh spring water from the glacier is served immediately on arrival as well as breads.
The menu choice is not vast (around 5 starters and 5 main courses) and everything is fresh and seasonal products are used and cooked to order. Another lovely touch is that both starters and puddings can be ordered as a "small" or "normal" portion size. All food was beautifully presented.
The wines are nearly all locally produced or Swiss. Yes, the Swiss have a great many vinyards and the quality is very good. You don't often find Swiss wines at home as they keep it all for themselves!
The restaurant is situated in dramatic mountain scenary and a glorious red sunset will set the granite rock faces pink. It is well worth the journey itself from nearby Villars sur Ollon and there are loads of walks and streams. In the hamlet of Solalex there is also a gallery and another restaurant to visit. Public transport does go to Solalex however you would have to choose your timings carefully.
The restaurant appeared to have its fair share of "locals" which is always a good sign. The prices are about average for Switzerland - a three course meal for 2 people with a bottle of house wine and coffee was around CHF 180 (£120 approx) - however location and quality made this a place I would recommend and visit again.
There is nothing pretentious about this restaurant - just good old fashioned taste and quality.
