The hotel itself is small and nice, with a pleasant view of the lake from its position on a hillside outside Lindau. It is located in a quite rural area quite far from the city. This might be a problem if you wish to stay near the lake or the town and also if you need to dine near the hotel as there is only one restaurant nearby (the hotel itself, being a Garni has no restaurant). The rooms are comfortable, even if somewhat "aged"; most have a balcony from which to enjoy the abovementioned view. In my opinion the hotel is somewhat overpriced for the overall value.
I tried to give an objective review of the hotel, if it lacks of enthusiasm it is because our stay was ruined by an extremely unpleasant treatment by the hotel staff upon our arrival.
My wife and I were travelling with our 9 months old son and for this reason we had booked (and confirmed via telephone) a cot for the baby. Upon our arrival we were informed by the receptionist that due to an unexpected arrival they had run out of cots (the hotel owns only 2) and that therefore the baby would have to sleep between us in the bed. We replied that it was a big problem as the baby was unused to sleeping in a bed and asked why they had not bothered to either prevent the error (answer: what do you want from me, I'm here from 2PM and this happened before my shift), solve it (answer: laughter) or at least call us to inform us (we could have squeezed our own foldable cot in the car if we had known about the problem). The only help offered by the hotel was to look for an alternative hotel: the receptionist called 3 hotels, only one had a room with babycot but at a much higher price; I replied that in such a case we would expect the hotel to shoulder the difference but that since it had become late and the baby was tired we would take the room even if entirely dissatisfied. The receptionist got angry, called her boss and finally announced that we were not welcome at the hotel anymore and that we were "free to look for another hotel on our own". I had to remind her that a binding reservation (confirmed through guarantee via credit card) works both ways and that she was free to call the police if she thought otherwise. In the end she agreed to call Booking.com (through which we had booked) and after some discussion with their call centre finally agreed to give us the room. As we were were finally taking the elevator she even managed to say "you see, like I proposed in the first place, but you had to waste 1hour of my time instead of letting me do my job". I would have liked to tell her that evidently she had some misconception about how her job is actually done, but I was too sad and tired to argue even another minute. The result was a sleepless night for all 3 of us; needless to say we were offered no compensation for the inconvenience...
