“Nice small hotel but poor service and value”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013 via mobile

The hotel itself is small and nice, with a pleasant view of the lake from its position on a hillside outside Lindau. It is located in a quite rural area quite far from the city. This might be a problem if you wish to stay near the lake or the town and also if you need to dine near the hotel as there is only one restaurant nearby (the hotel itself, being a Garni has no restaurant). The rooms are comfortable, even if somewhat "aged"; most have a balcony from which to enjoy the abovementioned view. In my opinion the hotel is somewhat overpriced for the overall value.

I tried to give an objective review of the hotel, if it lacks of enthusiasm it is because our stay was ruined by an extremely unpleasant treatment by the hotel staff upon our arrival.

My wife and I were travelling with our 9 months old son and for this reason we had booked (and confirmed via telephone) a cot for the baby. Upon our arrival we were informed by the receptionist that due to an unexpected arrival they had run out of cots (the hotel owns only 2) and that therefore the baby would have to sleep between us in the bed. We replied that it was a big problem as the baby was unused to sleeping in a bed and asked why they had not bothered to either prevent the error (answer: what do you want from me, I'm here from 2PM and this happened before my shift), solve it (answer: laughter) or at least call us to inform us (we could have squeezed our own foldable cot in the car if we had known about the problem). The only help offered by the hotel was to look for an alternative hotel: the receptionist called 3 hotels, only one had a room with babycot but at a much higher price; I replied that in such a case we would expect the hotel to shoulder the difference but that since it had become late and the baby was tired we would take the room even if entirely dissatisfied. The receptionist got angry, called her boss and finally announced that we were not welcome at the hotel anymore and that we were "free to look for another hotel on our own". I had to remind her that a binding reservation (confirmed through guarantee via credit card) works both ways and that she was free to call the police if she thought otherwise. In the end she agreed to call Booking.com (through which we had booked) and after some discussion with their call centre finally agreed to give us the room. As we were were finally taking the elevator she even managed to say "you see, like I proposed in the first place, but you had to waste 1hour of my time instead of letting me do my job". I would have liked to tell her that evidently she had some misconception about how her job is actually done, but I was too sad and tired to argue even another minute. The result was a sleepless night for all 3 of us; needless to say we were offered no compensation for the inconvenience...

This is a clean, modern hotel with friendly and efficient staff. Our room was spacious and had plenty of wardrobe space for clothes. We had a balcony with a very distant view of the lake and there was a good choice of food at breakfast.

The hotel is easy to find by car using the directions from the website, and there is free on-site parking. It is not, however, very close to the main tourist area on Lindau Island. A bus to take you there stops every half hour directly outside the hotel and is easy to use although you will need small change as tickets are obtainable from a machine on board, not the driver.

This is a fine small hotel – quite elegant, in fact. It looks very pretty from the outside, and the inside is finely laid out and furnished. We occupied a room on the third floor with a balcony and a distant view of the lake. The receptionist Susanna was charming and helpful and spoke good English. The hotel offered free wi-fi, which worked well, and there was a large flat screen TV with dozens of channels, including CNN. Parking was available within the grounds. The breakfast in the charming dining room was excellent.

Lindau is a very attractive town, with a wonderful Old Town on the ‘Island’, which is mostly pedestrian only and contains dozens of restaurants and shops. The receptionist recommended the SCHLECHTER- BRĂN, a good German restaurant with a fine courtyard in the back under the trees. It had an English menu and a fine waitress who also spoke the lingo. The food was very good – we had two mains (large portions) and a large thinly sliced tomato salad, which they called a Tomato Carpaccio and which was equally delicious, all accompanied by a litre of beer. The total came to 48 euros, a bargain. Highly recommended.

We booked on the net, where hotels in that region are very poorly represented. This place is very far from Lindau main railway station, and though it is in a lovely place in a quiet village street, it is very highly overpriced for a bed-n-breakfast hotel. The huge extra premium for a room with a view of the Bodenzee (Lake Constance) is not worth it. The lake is VERY far from the hotel, and barely visible beyond surrounding houses and trees. Otherwise, the hotel is very nice and the buffet breakfast (and the breakfast room) is good.

This hotel is a little gem . Nice friendly staff , clean and comfortable rooms and nice breakfast. The hotel is situated a little outside Lindau in a quiet residentail area and not on the main island . However it is served by a frequent bus service right into the centre .

We recently stayed at the Hotel Reulein for only one night recently & found that everything about this very pleasant little hotel was exceptional. It was incredibly clean, both the room and surroundings, & the very friendly staff made us feel so welcome. We thought that it was a new hotel as it was all SO well maintained & clean & were very surprised to learn that that it was 25 years old! Our continental breakfast had everything that we could have wanted & more, it was beautifully presented & a great choice considering that we were the last guests to eat there that morning. We both had a very good night's sleep on a comfortable & cosy bed & woke with a great feeling of being well rested. We had not made any booking and just arrived at 7pm after seeing the advertising notices posted on the nearby street corners & we were looking for a place for just one night whilst driving. We were able to park immediately outside.
Our room was a very good size & we had a beautiful view from our hotel balcony. Our only regret is that we were unable to stay longer, & we would have absolutely no hesitation in staying there again should we be so lucky to pass that way.

  • Liked — Cleanliness and very pleasant welcoming staff
  • Disliked — shower box a little small.
