“Not a conventional hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012

There is no reception so when you arrive you speak to the owner through an intercom and she opens the door where you get your keys and she describes where your room is. The room has a small kitchenette with 2 ring cooker and fridge and utensils for cooking.
Some of the rooms have a balcony with great views over the Moselle valley. Our room was round the back with a little garden. There is a supermarket close by to buy food.
Parking is limited close to the hotel and parking is allowed on the supermarket car park free of charge.
Cochem centre is about 15/20 min walk but there are miles of cycle paths alongside the river.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2012

We had two rooms, one on the first level (room 2) and one on the top level in an "attic" (top floor just below the roof). If not for the attic, I would have rated 5 stars, however the attic was rather small and it got very hot, even in early may! We could only sleep after leaving all the windows open for an hour and then chasing bees and mosquitos for another half hour.

However, the lower rooms are amazing: very clean, spatious and isolated very well.

I definately recommend it, but not if you will be located in the "attic".

Room Tip: Stay away from "the attic" room 5: it is way too hot!

This really is more of an apartment feel than a typical hotel room. A bit outside of town, but had a good approach on the castle and the walk really isn't bad. My wife and I enjoyed it actually. The owner of this wonderful little gem was so sweet and even gave us a bottle of Mosel wine as a welcome gift(a nice surprise, given the price of the hotel). The rooms come equipped with blinds on the outside of windows which locked out all of the street lights and everything so we got great sleep.

I really do recommend this hotel based on the price, cleanliness, and exceptional service. Do note though, that nobody is sitting at a front desk or anything throughout the day(or even at checkin) so if you are accustomed to that kind of service you need to look elsewhere. Though remote, there is a fairly short hike up to the castle(but it is VERY MUCH uphill). You do have the pleasure of coming up behind the castle though which made for a particularly wonderful Christmas card photo. The owner will gladly give you a map though, she seemed extremely proud to be from Cochem.

Haus von Hoegen is located in a quiet neighbourhood, very close to a grocery store and great bakery, within walking distance of downtown Cochem and the railway station. The room was clean and was great value. I definitely reccomend it to other travellers.

This house is situated a nice 10 minute walk from the town centre in a quiet area. Absolutely spotless and all you need is provided including plenty of fresh towels. Would definately stay again. Thank you.
