“Not just a museum....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013 via mobile

Whilst visiting friends she suggested we go to a museum, boring!!! This museum was brilliant and nothing like anything you would find in the UK. Full size airplanes which you can look around then slide down a very fast tube to get off, fantastic, although the climb up to the top to do it several times takes it out of you
All the exhibits were really interesting and very accessible, the kids could climb all over most of them. To go inside planes, submarines, boats, helicopters, all about 100 foot off the ground was really exciting
We spent 8hrs there with 2 kids aged 10 & 7 and they didn't moan once, now that's a good museum

“Incredible and so accessible!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

On a whim, we decided to venture out to the Technik Museum one wkend. We were gitty like little kids when we started to see the first "sight" of airplanes and the skyline of Speyer. Our kids heard us and were amazed at the sight of the Boeing 747 and other planes. We practically ran from the car into the museum. If you don't know any German, don't bother to purchase an IMAX ticket. The staff will help you understand what is in English and German. The lobby is rather empty but it does have a small snack stand and arcade for the kids. (If you want to avoid the nagging from the kids to play in the arcade, just venture more to the left of the lobby because the arcade is directly behind the ticket booth on the right side)
The entry into the actual museum is mind blowing. We didn't know where to start. If you love WWII history, this has some artifacts (vehicles, clothing, planes and midget sub's). Lots of trains, large musical organs (you can pay to listen to it play) and a large carousel (also you can pay to see it turn--you can't board though)
Outside, get ready to dash to the Boeing 747. If you're scared of heights or have vertigo, don't go up! Obviously when you see the plane, it is at an angle. Inside, it's even more apparent. Be ready to walk sideways and hang on to the kids. You can go inside the belly of the plane and up to the cockpit. The best thrill of this plane is going out onto one of the wings and at the very tip, it's the best photograph spot. Once you're up there, you have 2 options on how to get down. #1: Stairs and #2 a windy aluminum slide on wool blankets. (if you choose this option, bring the blanket with you to the top and leave it on the platform prior to entering the plane) My son and I opted out and instead went on and looked inside other planes and helicopters. There is a coast guard boat which is loaded just as if it's out to sea. Joined by a walkway is the U-Boat. The stairs leading inside are very steep so be careful if you have children. It's very cramped but once you grasp the history and what went on inside these U-Boats, you have to admire the sailors.
The kids will have more opportunities to exhaust their energy on the small playground, pirate ship and swing over the water. This is a great day trip and if you only have an hour or two, don't bother. You will stay past your allotted time!

“Spectacular”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

I came for the new bike exhibition - which is great with many superbikes and a few, old worldrecord bike. But I was really impressed by the airplanes and the russian Buran (which was a copy of the space shuttle). Very, very good presentation.

“Very Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Very good/large collection of old automobiles and plans... layout of exhibits is very clumsy or crowded...as there is no specific flow, chances of missing some exhibits is very high or you end up walking extra :) ... Prepare to spend minimum 4-5 hrs too many things to see... some of the exhibits have info in English... 3D IMAX movies are only in German. Over all good day out attraction for friends and family.

“Must see for those, who loves technics”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

Extremely large exposition of aircraft, cars, motorcycles and other automotive. Very large and interesting space flight exhibition with Buran, a Soviet Union version of space shuttle. Information in English also.

Prepare to spend a lot of time, because if you want to visit it with more attention, you have to rest a few times. I think this museum became a little too big.
