“Wouldn't recommend”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

We stayed on Contiki for one night. We didn't see bed bugs and we did get an alright sleep so it's ok when your on Contiki but I wouldn't stay here again out of choice. A bit noisy and the whole place had a bit of an unsanitary feel. Wifi only works in the bar. just make sure you have a few beers before you go to bed to help you sleep.

Very dirty and full of bed bugs! This hotel has known about the bed bugs for some time yet they have done nothing to get id of them! Horrible experience! They do not even deserve a 1! The bugs were on the ceiling, bed, under the sheets, floors, everywhere! Thank god I didn't sleep in the bed. My luggage must now be quarantined to prevent from spreading to other hotels. Really gross!

Room Tip: Do not stay here!

Didn't mind this hotel. It's very basic but serves as a place to sleep.
We had a great view of the river. The bar was conveniently located downstairs.
We had a meal in the restaurant which was very basic but filled us.

Came here on Contiki with my friend for an overnight stay and thank god it was overnight. The owner of this so called "hotel" also owns the beer stein place so don't buy anything from him as he has no ethical standards.

Best to avoid as there were bed bugs when we woke up in the morning. The atmosphere in the room felt like we were in the middle of a swamp, breeding bugs all over. Worst still, we had to eat there for dinner.

If it was possible to select a DO NOT GO rating I would have. Not sure why other people have rated this highly because it is even worst than a hostel and does not deserve any rating. I've now become extremely weary of family owned hotels like this and hope nobody has to endure this like we did. We were itchy for the rest of the tour!

We stayed in room 111 - I sure hope we never go back again. Ruined an otherwise scenic place.

Room Tip: Do not stay at room 111

We stayed at this hotel for one night on our Contiki trip. This hotel was in a great location right in the centre of Saint Goar. It's right across the road from the River and adjacent to all the shops. The room itself was very bare-bones (somebody had mentioned that there was no TV or alarm clock). But the hotel itself was quaint. They made our group dinner which we ate in their restaurant and we drank afterwards in the bar on the main floor. There is no elevator or air conditioning so lugging our luggage was interesting. But overall this hotel was fine for us and we enjoyed our stay in Saint Goar very much.

Stayed here in January 2011 for 1 night and it was a really memorable night as there is a bar underneath the 'hotel' and we partied into the small hours. It's actually more like a bar with accommodation upstairs and our room was so so so small! The food was fine in the bar and generally had a feel good vibe about it, but please do not think this is going to be a flash hotel!

I stayed here in May 2011 on a Contiki tour

The Hotel Montag is located in the heart of St. Goar near shopping, restaurants and bars. Our room had a view of the Rhine River. Rooms varied from very large (ours had 3 beds and tons of space) to quite small. The hotel was very rustic with a bit of a cabin/mountain lodge type of feel throughout. The meals were basic but good. There was no Wi-Fi available but there was a small internet café near the lobby. I recommend this hotel to people who are looking for a quiet mountain get-away. St. Goar was an amazing little town but with very little action at night.
