“Tryp Hotel Ratigen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

Nice hotel and good value for the money. It's very convenient to airport -- less than 20 euro taxi ride. While hotel breakfast is good with wide selection, the evening menu is quite limited and fairly expensive. It's a 15-20 minute walk into downtown Ratigen, where there are lots of choices. In the summer there's a nice 5 minute walk down to roundabout and then through the trees to a huge rented space garden area where you can walk through beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. Rooms here are simple but functional. If you want a bathtub instead of the little see-through shower, ask for a twin room. You'll get 2 pillows this way and a bathtub/shower combo. Internet is spotty and wireless only works in lobby, but this is only real drawback. Otherwise, nice place with good service-oriented front desk staff.

Room Tip: If you want a bathtub, ask for twin room. Otherwise you get a see-through shower in middle of room...

I've stayed a few times in this hotel and I liked it because of the closeness to the Int. Airport (10 min by taxi) and the nice and quite rooms. The restaurant is ok but a little overpriced. There is a McDonalds close by if you prefer it.
The disadvantage of my stay was the internet. I specially choose this hotel for their free internet (by Ethernet cable) but for the second time there were some problems getting on. The first time I had the privilege of a technician who helped me out but my last stay was on a Sunday and that means, no technicians working. The desk clerk advised me to use the wireless in the lobby but even that one didn't work.
If you rent a car from Sixt, you can leave it at the hotel. Taxi to the airport cost EU 15.

Great modern furniture, Ikea like..clean rooms , all working. Great breakfast , dinner well cooked but very limited choices, Thai oriented. One interesting thing is the see through showers in the middle of the room !

Room Tip: Maybe not ground floor.

This is a super hotel about 15 minutes from the main Airport in Dusseldorf. There is ample parking and the hotel is quite close to the main routes and the city.
The building itself is stylish and comfortable with an excellent bar and pleasant staff.
The room are moderately fitted out and quite interesting in design. Mine had a shower enclosed in a glass surrounding almost in the centre of the room. I found this to be a different and interesting touch but it may not be to everyone's taste - particularly for sharing!! One of my colleagues had a room with a window viewing directly into the toilet.
There is car rental available at reception, Wi-Fi and a very large and tranquil pond to the rear that I found quite relaxing to walk around.
The views from the hotel are ok, it’s located in a neatly laid out industrial park and there are one or two nearby shops (Ratingen) within walking distance.
I had food on a few occasions and the menu is varied enough to suit all tastes. The bar/restaurant is large, spacious and comfortable with numerous seating arrangements. The breakfast was excellent – again, a wide choice. Would recommend a visit for business or pleasure.

Maybe at the time it was built ('95), this was intended to be a "designer" hotel, but now it really looks odd...
Having the shower in the middle of the room (yeah, you read it right), might sound appealing, but that only if whole draining would work smoothly, not when a heavy odor comes out from the shower drain.
As somebody was saying before, the fitness area is "to photograph to say there is one". (I haven't seen a stair stepper in a gym since ages, but they still have one - half broken, as you can only select one program and only 4 or 9 minutes length...)
All in one, I'm still wondering how some hotels get 4* classification, as this one would rather qualify for a decent 3* business hotel.
Oh, and don't get excited by the "free mini bar"... It's 2 bottles of water and a .3 beer.
Everything shouts out loud "this hotel needs some serious investment" to bring it to today's standards.
Other than that a clean, in the middle of nowhere hotel.

I use this hotel whenever I visit Dusseldorf on business; it's not in the centre but 10 minutes from the airport in Ratingen.

If you've been before check-in is 30 seconds - everything in this hotel is slick and reeks of German efficiency!

menu gets a bit limiting after a while... but the beer makes up for it

I have visited this hotel 3 times. The rooms are clean & nice to stay in. The Bar/Restaurant is a bit quite and lacking in atmosphere. The staff are all very friendly. The young ladie working at the bar realised I was English and so when I ordered a second beer she said "There is nobody looking, I make you an english beer with less froth". The extra 1mm of beer was really not important but the friendlyness and humour made the evening most enjoyable. Very small things like this can make a big differance.
