“Clean, quiet hotel with friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014

I stayed here for 10 days on a business trip in August. Beware, you have to request a room with AC if you want it...the rooms with AC are different, but they did agree to move my room and charge $25 more per night. The breakfast buffet is excellent; the variety and quality never disappointed. We ate dinner here once and it was really good as well. If you want soda, be prepared to fork over some dough...but this is consistent across the board for Germany. I found the hotel staff to be friendly, but you have better luck getting someone who speaks English during the day. The night staff didn't know very much English. Overall it was a nice trip with no issues other than the wifi only worked in the main lobby and not in the rooms.

I stayed here for the 3rd or 4th time and while this has always been a good hotel to stay in, I am growing a little bit more disillusioned. There's always something. Two of my stays, the sauna/pool area was under repair - this time (1) internet access was not working for about 2 days (which is annoying when you're there on a business trip and need email access as well as skype) and (2) festivities in the fraternity house which many of the rooms are facing are still often prohibitively loud, which was particularly bothersome since it was very hot during the time I was here but in the evenings you sometimes just can't open the window unless you want to listen to drunk students yell, sing, fight, and throw beer bottles around their house and yard. The rooms are still nice and the breakfast is very good, but I am reaching a point where things like (lack of) internet access, quietness, and a gym begin to make me look for other options for my trips to Giessen in the future. I would now not anymore recommend the hotel to colleagues and would prefer to give it a grade between 'average' and 'poor'.

Room Tip: At all costs, avoid rooms facing the fraternity house (because of noise and heat).

I was staying in this hotel on May 2014 on business. In the morning my colleague and I asked the reception if the rooms we were staying were free for one more night and as they were, we booked them. During the day there was a change of plans and we changed our return flights so that we were already leaving on the same day. When we returned to the hotel to pick up our luggage at 15.50 we told the person at the reception that we won’t be staying and will just get our bags from the rooms and check out. When we came back it was 16.05 and receptionist told us that she will be charging us for the cancelled nights’ charge as we did not cancel before 16:00! We were actually at the reception 5 minutes before 16:00 but she did not say anything about the deadline for cancellation without charge. We objected but there was nothing that could be done according to the receptionist and we were in a hurry to go to the airport.

If you have flexible travel plans, do not stay in this hotel.

Stayed at this hotel for one night on a business trip. With colleagues.
Room was excellent , recently refurbished. Location was good for our meeting.
Sauna and a small pool. Didn't eat here because we had a business dinner elsewhere.
Car parking
Breakfast choice was good and service overall excellent.

Very clean hotel with a kind staff. The wifi is very disappointing for a hotel that caters to a Business clientele.

No fitness center.

Breakfast is exceptional for a continental-style; much better than in the States.

No A/C.

Don't let the "Best Western" name through you off, much nicer than I expected.

I stayed here for a conference at the nearby university. Below are my key thoughts on the hotel:

1. Facilities. This is an older hotel but it has been renovated fairly recently so is in good condition. There is a sauna and pool and a bar (quite small but nice Pilsner). The only downside is there is no air conditioning in the rooms so if it is hot then they can get pretty hot so you need to plan on keeping the windows open at strategic times to ensure it is relatively cool.

2. Rooms. These are very nice, clean and modern. Bathrooms are very nice.

3. Location. Close to enough to University and downtown to be able to walk most places. Giessen isn't exactly a big town so location isn't a key factor.

4. Service. Very good all-round, friendly, attentive and effective. Breakfast was very good, good quality and excellent choice.

Room Tip: With regards to no air con, a higher floor will obviously reduce security fears if you leave windows...

I'ts a nice hotel, we stayed here before and we like Giessen so we decided to stay in Giessen oour way home. We paid EUR 150,- for the night, which is a normal price, but it was not fully booked so I got the idea we were paying for the missing guests! Room, was nice and clean, good beds. We had to ask for extra toiletpaper because there was hardly any we later found out while taking a shower that the shampoo was empty! I read about the airconditioning on tripadvisor, but we didn't need it and I don't know if that still is. When we visit Giessen like 10 years ago it wasn't like that. We wanted to et a drink, but the ar was closed and so was the restaurant(?). We were planning on going out for dinner anyway but the ar closed??? We we able to get some drinks in the lobby but we didn't want that. Staff was very kind, breakfast was very good as wel. Hardy any guests, must be the crisis though. EUR 100,- would have been a good price for a night.
