“A special and memorable experience.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013 via mobile

I just have to share my experience of this wonderful seaside paradise with everyone.

Days at Sea is magical and unique property where I spent 4 days in a spacious suite while enjoying spectacular views. I have to mention that the food was excellent with service that was very friendly.

When one sits on the vast terrace which overlooks a "private beach" while listening to a carefully compiled playlist, one can only savor the music, food, wine and concede that this is a special paradise.

An absolute must for anyone in South Africa!

Dear Justin, we were proud having you at our place. Thank you for the very kind words. We heard you had tons of fun and enjoyed the Lounge and the Bar. To hear from you being the Manager of Cape Town's no.1 place is an honor. We hope you keep your promise to come again later this season.

Let me start this review with the positives. The venue is gorgeous, a better view of the sea you could not ask for and if you like golf it is in the perfect location. If the service had been good it would have been a wonderful 3 nights but instead it was a stressful week of waiting for the next disaster.
We arrived and were put in a room Inyoni underneath the top layer and the smell of damp as the doors were opened was like being told to sleep in your garage for the next 3 nights. I am pregnant so maybe my sense of smell is heightened but the hotel manager said it was the aircon’s smell and asked me what she should do about it??
Luckily for us the next day she moved us to a vacant room upstairs. However when we moved in, there was no toilet paper, no shower gel, no pillow cases for the pillows on the bed. There was only one other couple staying at the hotel so they weren't exactly busy. I asked for beach towels and was told they don't have beach towels, we should bring our own (TO A BEACH RESORT) They let us use the old pool towels thankfully.

Being hot and summer I asked them for a sheet for the bed rather than the duvets they only have on the bed. They gave me a fitted sheet and just left it folded on the bed for me to sort out - not very 5 star. They don't even turn down your room in the evenings. On the website they have wonderful pictures of seafood braai's on the beach, when I enquired about dinner they said the dinner would be crispy fried chicken and creamy penne pasta and the following night curry. Not what I was expecting from a seaside resort. So we went out for dinner every night, which was a good thing as the first day we decided to have lunch there and we ordered our toasted sandwiches at 1:30. I was told that the chef had gone to the shops and when he returned he would make our lunch. We eventually received our lunch at 3pm. Seriously unacceptable to send the chef to the shops during lunch time.

We did however stay for drinks, they had a specials board with the "cocktails of the day" I order a Virgin Pina colada but none of the staff knew how to make it and I had to wait for the maintenance/chef to come back. My husband had a Windhoek which he couldn't drink as it had expired in Aug 2008!!!! Even the coffee machine in our room didn't work and had to be replaced - besides they only had decaf in the room and no milk. In our room 3 light bulbs had gone out and there was no dustbin either, only in the loo. The icing on the cake was at exactly 10am we were phoned by the hotel manager to ask when we were checking out and we said we were about to leave the room but obviously she wasn't bothered to get a porter to help carry our bags up the 3 flights of stairs, so they were very happy to let the pregnant lady pay her bill and carry her own bags to the car.

This place is a disaster, the owners apparently live in Cape Town and only come up for VIP guests but the in the mean time leave the hotel to a brand new hotel manager who hasn't worked in a hotel before. I find it very unfair to let guests pay premium prices when the staff although very sweet are super inefficient. I feel sad to write this because it's not their fault they have not received proper training and the hotel is beautiful so it should be better run.

If you want to relax and unwind this is not the place.

Room Tip: Do not have a room underground they smell of damp

Thank you for taking so much time for writing this review. We feel really sorry that you had apparently a not so good experience at our Lodge. But at least you pointed out some positive aspects. As owners we of course investigated what happened and heard a very different story from our managers. Let me come back to some points where nobody was really emotionally involved.
Unfair to charge premium prices with untrained staff: you stayed for a last minute special with a 40% discount and our staff is very helpful.
Three of the ceiling bulbs were not working, only one: you just switched the reading light on and missed the main switch.
Pictures of seaside braii's on the website: there is only one picture with people at a table. They had a Salad Nicoise and Parma Ham. By the way, is a seaside resort automatically serving fish ? You also should know that it is not allowed to have a braai on the beach.
The new room was not prepared: You moved into the room without waiting for the room to be prepared and checked.
Pool towels: there are plenty "new" towels on the sun lounges at the pool and the guests are welcome to take them to the beach since 5 years.
You had to carry your bag despite your pregnancy : even non pregnant guests do not have to carry bags. Maybe you should be more relaxed and wait until the porter helps.
In my humble opinion it is not fair to use this platform for wrong statements or half- truths. We always have open ears for critics and always try to improve.
I do not want to check every point but I find it rather unfair to blame our staff for each and everything.

Stunning setting, awesome views. But the units are the real highlight. All different, stylish, but relaxed. Exactly what we were looking for to enjoy this area. After some great golf in the area, the food was excellent (best by far in the area) and the superb wine collection made our stay perfect in every sense. We will for sure be back and send friends. Dont hesitate to come, I am sure everyine will recommend this boutique experience to all their friends.

Dear Pierre, it was pure pleasure having you at our place. To host a golf pro from Hamburg and to join him for a round at Wild Coast will always be remembered. But also the many bottles of Columella we were having for dinner were in my head especially the next morning...
We are so glad that your whole group enjoyed it and actually did not not want to leave. See you back soon!

Wonderful Stay - Stunning Views, great accommodation, delicious dining, and good service. A big thank you up to Eric the operations manager who took fantastic care of us,and making us feel more than at home.
It was pure relaxation from beginning to end - just what we needed coming from the big city.

A breathtaking place! You will thoroughly enjoy your stay. The interior is stylish and tasteful and relaxed at the same time. A stunning atmosphere of art and music and food and the sourrounding countryside. All the suites are having a 180' sea view and there is a direct path to the beach. Everything is clean and well looked after and the staff goes the extra mile for you. The perfect service, a great restaurant and a winelist where people have bought from to take home complete a place you should visit, if you travel to South Africa.

My husband and I left Days at Sea today after 3 nights. We felt we didnt have the opportunity to properly thank the people who made our stay extremely comfortable. The guesthouse itself was a gem with its unique location and beautiful seaview, but the real stars are the staff- they made a difference to our stay. They were discreet without intruding, but yet provided the warmth and friendliness of being in one's home. Eric, the multi-talented chef, manager, guest relations, concierge etc etc..provided us with wonderful food, excellent wine recommendation and service. Christine, Prudence and Patricia gave us friendly, efficient and yet, warm service. They were always smiling and happy!! The body massage was one of the best we have experienced..and we have had many massages worldwide. And we will definitely be back soon!

Days at sea offers a fantastic view of the Indian Ocean. The facilities are quiet, the bed is great. Breakfasts were fantastic. As a 5 star facility, it lacked in the touches that we would expect. For example, there was a totally frosted freezer compartment in the mini fridge, some of the furniture is fading, and a few other small items. We passed this information to Eric, but for a 5 star, high priced accommodation, these issues should not exist.

Thank you for taking the time to review our Lodge and for your compliments regarding the beautiful ocean view, the bed, the quiet facilities and the fantastic breakfast. But let us also respond to your critical notices which are always welcome when justified. The theme of the Lodge is driftwood and modern lines- a 120 year old fisherman's house has been left in parts and surrounded by very modern extensions, modern design pieces were spiced by rare collector's items like the 20 year old "faded" turquoise Bretz couch which we auctioned as a rarity in London and that we are really proud of.
DAYS AT SEA is not a self catering place and this was acknowledged and signed by you on check in. Instead your mini bar was used for your own food and beverages permanently during your stay which caused the frosting of the freezer compartment. A minibar is not a freezer for your own food and drinks but for the carefully selected beverages of the Lodge. It had been reported to us but we did not want to spoil your holidays by interfering from the management side. Days At Sea offers a fantastic and highly decorated restaurant , wine cellar, bar and spa and more high class facilities which were not used by you at all. There are wonderful restaurants in the area that we highly recommend to our guests as well. Instead you decided to cater for yourselves in our suite without even having consumed anything we offer. You enjoyed apparently the "fantastic" breakfast as it is included but you left the Lodge with a zero invoice without leaving one Rand tip for eight people who cared for you 24/7. We never had this before and the staff and we as the owners are sorely disappointed.
