“Great people a bit out of the way.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

Straubing is about abn hr from the Munich Airport, so it is a good place to settle and pack for the trip home. Straubing an old roman town on the danube is a walled city with the towers remaioning and the cobbeled downtown.

The Seethaler is an old hotel remaining the the current family for 6 or more generations. A clean but historic hotel which offers parking and their own restaurant. The town offers less of a tourist feel with some basic german helpful in shops, but restaurants offer an english menu.

The area is famous for the ASAm brothers churches. These architects creates interesting and unusual effects. Straubing is close to Mettin with its famous benedictine church and library, with wonderful carvings. It is also Close to the Weltenburg Kloster with their Asam church and beer garden. Weltenburger brewery has been around since 1050.

This is a great hotel right in the center of one of the loveliest towns in Bavaria. They also have a fabulous restaurant with seating right on the town square under huge umbrellas or inside in their bavarian style dining rooms. Parking is in a small lot in the back of the hotel. The family run hotel has a wonderful breakfast buffet that is included in the price of the room. The rooms are clean and comfortable with double windows that screen out the noise from the street and chimes from the churches. There is no elevator and the stairs are steep, but this allows you to have an extra beer or two without feeling guilty. The family who runs the hotel is warm and welcoming and very helpful.

It's an old hotel -- much updated -- in a town with a wonderful old center city well worth exploring on foot, which one can do from this hotel. Getting here is a bit tricky, even with a GPS, but there is a free parking lot behind the building. The rooms are one floor above the street, and there is no elevator, but the stairs aren't that bad, and the rooms themselves are extemely comfortable, with multiple amenities.

The hotel restaurant, on the main street, is very good. Traditional.

Do check out the town hall, or rathaus. And a few of the more amazing churches.

Situated in the centre of town, on the main square. Lots of cafes and restaurants in easy walking distance. The building is old, so the rooms are not uniform shapes, but they are well furbished with comfortable beds and our bathroom was spotless and seemed newly installed. The shower was excellent (after a long hot day cycling). There is no air conditioning, and it was very hot when we stayed. An electric fan would have been a useful addition to the room. Breakfast was good quality with lots of choice. Food in the restaurant was also good quality and value for money. Cycles were stored in a locked store room at the back of the hotel. This was an excellent place to stay in this gem of a German town.

This hotel is right in the middle of the main high street which makes it an excellent location for shopping and visiting the local market which is right on the doorstep.

This is a family run establishment and all the staff are very friendly. The room was very clean and tidy with free Internet access (though not WI - FI, it's a patch cable for a laptop). A PC is also available in reception for free. The bathroom also had a bath which was useful for us after a long days cycling. There was a TV in the room but no English speaking channels were available. They also have facilities for storing bikes securely if you are travelling by bike.

There is a restaurant attached to the hotel downstairs but we never ate there so cannot comment on the food. The restaurant is quite brightly lit and very traditional looking with all the staff wearing the Bavarian garb - it's all right if you like that sort of thing.

The breakfast was also fine. Lots of the usual healthy cereals, bread, cheeses and meat. Overall a very pleasant stay with nothing to complain about.
