Enroute from the Zurich airport to Oberammergau, Germany, my wife and I by chance stopped at the Gasthof Baren in Nesselwang (Bavaria) for lunch. What great fortune. We were personally greeted by the owner who gave us a terrific history lesson regarding the building and business as he was particularly proud that Baren had served many American officers and servicemen during WWII.
Our meal was simply outstanding. I had a most delicious pork dish. My wife is a vegetarian and the owner insisted on having the chef prepare a colorful dish of vegetables and potatoes. The local beer was more a treat than a beverage. It indeed was a stroke of luck that we stopped in and enjoyed one of the best meals that we have ever had in Germany. The food/drink was beyond reproach as was the service and friendliness of the owner and staff.
We highly recommend this restaurant and will likely go there again when in the area.
