My husband and I are just back from a coach tour of the Black Forest and stayed at this hotel. It has 4 stars but no air conditioning in temperatures around the 30's we think this is shocking. On the first evening I requested a fan for the room and was told there were none. The next morning I went to reception and told them I was unwell and needed a fan, we then got one.The staff were not very pleasant and we all felt we were treated like second class citizens. Breakfast for us was at 08.30 not one minute earlier! In the evening at 18.30 we were put into a room downstairs which did not even have windows and were given our dinner, no choice apart from take it or leave it.Some of us opted for tap water(perfectly drinkable) as they charged 5.10 euros for a bottle. Other guests seemed to be made welcome, but our thinking is that if you are from the UK they are not interested.

Room Tip: Whatever you do if they want to put you on the third or fourth floor, we would suggest you decline!

Nice place to stay.
It's an average hotel, but in view of the small quiet town Villingen, it's enough.
The rooms and beds are comfortable.
The view from the room windows is not interesting since it is surrounded by houses, so one can't comfortably look at the scenes outside as mostly these are private properties.
WiFi is kind of costly and frequently interrupted.
The restaurant offers a good open buffet breakfast.
The service in the restaurant is very good.
The lobby is small and, kind of, crowded with chairs.
In the lobby, they serve a great, first class American coffee brewed from one of the best Swiss brands.
The town is very nice quiet area with full facilities for shopping, banking, health, restaurants and more. Yes, it's not a town for tourism by itself but for me, I was in a training course in Tutlingen, it's a good choice to stay in while the transport by a bus to the site of training.
I enjoyed my stay in the hotel.

This hotel is well positioned being opposite the tourist information office and near several cafes. It is not ideal for cars as the village is basically a pedestrian area with the main roads and car parks outside what was once a walled town - there are remnants of the wall still standing. However it is only approximately 15 mins walk from the station - head across the road opposite along Paradiesgasse until you reach the main shopping street: Niedere Strasse where turn right along the cobbled road, turning left at the cross streets: along Rietstrasse, there is also a tourist information sign. Just after last cafe on your left and before the tower turn left: Tourist information is on your right and the Hotel to your left.
The open entrance area comprises of the bar with seating to left and right, also a cosy restaurant on the right just before the reception desk.
The receptionists were very efficient and cheerful and soon had us on our way to our room: we had chosen a superior room which was a good space with plenty of storage, a settee and coffee table.
The restaurant offered a small but good menu - we did have a meal here which was nicely cooked and presented. The breakfast room is large with a circular glass roof at one end, the breakfast array is well displayed with a good variety on offer.
There is an internet connected laptop computer in the lobby area for guests to use free of charge - but no printer.
Overall we were very pleased with the hotel and found the staff very helpful and efficient.

The biggest reason to stay at this hotel is that it's right in the Aldstadt. That comes with pros and cons, though.

Pros:
*Tons of restaurants, cafes and shopping within a few minutes walk
*Decent, good sized rooms - a little dated, but not bad.
*Minibar includes delicious Furstenburg beers
*Friendly, helpful staff

Cons:
*Parking is bad - I mean really, really, really bad. I would think twice about staying here with a car as drop off, move the car, etc is rough. A valet would really help.
*Pay wifi - not a fan of that.

Bottom line - this is an "ok" hotel in a great location, but be aware of the parking situation before booking.

Judging from a short stopover, the old town of Villingen is a delight and the Mercure Hotel is ideally situated just inside the city walls, directly opposite the tourist centre and a short walk from the Munster.

My room was a good size and tastefully decorated and furnished with ample cupboard and desk space, two chairs and small table. It was well-lit and cosy. The only things missing that I would have liked are coffee/tea and a mini-safe (apparently provided in ‘suite’ rooms).

The bathroom was also a good size with plenty of space for toiletries. The shower was powerful.

There was a good room service menu and the restaurant looked pleasant, as did a lobby bar. Free internet was available in reception, so I didn’t pay for the in-room wifi which is available for a range of tariffs.

There’s no car park, but it was easy to park outside for a short time upon arrival or departure. The hotel promotes the public ‘Theater am Ring’ car park and has a special rate of EUR7 overnight, which was just a short level walk away.

Breakfast was included in the room rate and was of good quality with a wide range of foods.

The staff were friendly and helpful.

Splendid Hotel in the heart of Villingen's shopping centre. We stayed 7 nights from 28th December 12 to 4th January 13 on half board basis (travelled with a group). Room was spacious and comfortable attic on 4th floor reachable by only 1 lift (only drawback). Abundant buffet breakfast, and fairly good dinners. New year's Gala Dinner Dance was sumptuous and very entertaining. Staff was very friendly. Would certainly recommend.

Typical mid scale hotel, very clean, room large enough, WIFI worked well, staff kind. Parking is not too far away, probably less than 200 meters but car can be parked outside the entrance to drop luggage off. Breakfast slighlty better than average. Overall happy and I would go back: I am not giving 5 points for the typical let downs of this kind of hotel chains.... 4,90 euro for water bottle in the room (they dare to say "only"), no tea coffee facilities in the room, tea in the lobby served directly in the cup....
